Just got back from Shutter Island. My wife recorded a segment from some morning show the other day where Regis Philbin was talking about this movie. My wife knows I'm a Dennis Lehane fan and that I planned to see the movie so she caught this on the DVR. Regis basically said it was a movie that you couldn't miss a clue on or you'd be lost. He said that even though he paid attention he was still asking his fellow movie-goers questions in the lobby. It was a really freaky movie. And he was right. PAY ATTENTION to every little detail. Somehow I didn't read the durned book. (too many books out there the past few years and no way to read em all). The book simply slipped past me. I really wish, in retrospect, that I had read it. But the movie actually "reads" like a book. And the cinematography (is that a word???) is killer awesome. I mean woah!! Hats off to Scorsese the director. This dude needs to win some kind of academy award, along with DiCaprio. Sheesh, what a movie. Some of the best acting I've seen, well, EVER. Don't take the wife. She'll be bored out of her mind. Go by yourself and prepare not to pee for a couple of hours. Seriously. Don't miss a beat. This is a mindblower. See it. I'm still reeling from it. It's like gravy for the brain!! :D

I read the book a year or two ago and really liked it. I think it's one of Lehane's best. Now if he'd just write another Kenzie/Gennaro novel.

If you've read the book, you MUST and I mean MUST go see the movie. Go see it and let us know if it was an accurate portrayal. Basically, it had to be. There's no way a mindscrewin' like that could come from Hollywood. You've gotta see this movie. Scorcese is a freeekin genius and DiCaprio blew it away acting wise. As good as he's been in previous stuff, he just blew everything away in this. Quite possibly the best acting I've ever seen. Truly. If he don't win an award for this movie, then the thing is rigged for sure. Bastid can ACT!!

Go see it. You've got to. Spend the seven bucks. Pee before you go in. Don't miss a second. :)

Don't take the wife? If I don't take her, I really would be lost. She does not miss anything in movies and figures it out way too quickly before it is over. Thanks for the tip, probably gonna go tonight.

Leonardo is a good actor.

+1  I know he did some amateurish stuff in the past, but in the last few years he's become one of my favorites. He really is great.

I'll probably go see Shutter Island soon...Scorsese is awesome, too.

i wasn't terribly impressed with the book. not that im terribly smart, but i had figured out basically what was going on about 2/3 through. it felt like a rethinking of a great movie (i wont say which, so as not to ruin anything).

but i would like to see the movie. scorcese + dicaprio, has to be good!

My wife and I went last night. It was a packed theatre. Once again, behind us was talking, comments, toe tapping and inconsideration. I asked the 3 teen girls to be quiet please. I received some OH My God, he didn't and such. I turned around louder and said that I said "please." In the same row 2 to my left, a guy was talking too, and I asked him to be quiet, and I said please again. He told me to settle down, I said I am settled, I just cannot hear with you all talking. He asked me If I wanted to "go". I said not now, maybe after the movie, if you can be quiet til then. I did get some laughs, and guess what, all in that row shut up for the rest of the movie. At the end of the movie, I stood up and Mr. man in the back row could not even look at me. Mental note, no movies for me Saturday night. I liked it, good movie.

I have the same bad luck with people around me. Almost makes me not want to go to theaters ever...

I saw it. It was good, but I figured it out early on. I was a bit disappointed that it was THAT predictable.

How in the heck did you figure it out early on? How did you figure it out period? Hate to sound dense, but this movie kept me guessing until the credits rolled (and even thereafter). I'm tempted to call bull%%it to anyone that claims they had it figured out 2/3rd of the way thru, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Still way hard to understand how you could have figured this out beforehand (unless you read the book or something). That's gotta be it... :)

We are pretty lucky around here. The younger gen is pretty accustomed to being, well, publicly corrected shall we say? So when they get "warned" by an adult in a movie theater, something clicks. And they behave. At least that's been my observation. These are the hills of Virginia. We still got manners around here. Even the kiddies that have their noses pierced, when reminded, remember their manners. We're the last of the holdouts unfortunately. When these young folks are grown up and gone, we'll be in the same boat as y'all. Bunch of inconsiderate rebels without a clue. :(

i haven't seen the movie yet.

i figured out what was happening 2/3 through the book. not every detail, but i knew more than just the general direction it was headed.

perhaps scorcese did a better job of concealing the storyline than the author.

i liked his amateurish stuff...pulled the rolls off better without a cocky attitude. Not really a scorsese fan, but the film has peaked my interest so may see it.
