I think I've purchased about 3 production knives in the last few years.(I'm a custom guy!). I really love this Benchmade 755. I think Shane has a great design with the Mini Pocket Rocket and I feel that Benchmade did a great job executing this production version. Lockup, detent, centering, etc is excellent and as you can see it's a great rendition of the original. It's not a custom, no, however; I think it's the best $200 knife I've ever seen or handled!

I completely agree. The build quality is great for the price you are paying. I hadnt seen Sibert's original custom and from your pics its good that Benchmade stayed true to almost all of Sibert's custom details.

Are those tool marks all over the pivot of the custom??

Nice looking knife overall but it looks like someone did some poor machining on that pivot.

so far so good on the clip. This is a "beefy" knife that's pretty thick all around. I had it in my jeans pocket all evening yesterday and it worked great as it did with khaki's in the office during the day yesterday. I could imagine that it is a bit too heavy for use with suit slacks type material.

As for the pivot, that's silver G10 around the pivot (nice touch Shane!) I think you may mean the marks by the stop pin, that is just oil...

No, I see the G10 around the pivot(nice!) but the actual steel pivot(the side w/o the hex) itself looks like it has bad tool marks in it from being faced(improperly) on a lathe. I didn't even noticed the oil around the stop pin until you mentioned it.

I don't mean any offense to Shane or anyone else, just stating what it looks like from the pictures.

I HATE spending over $120 on any knife, but this is soooooo tempting. I love the look and have read nothing but good things about it!

Great pix!! It is nice to see a custom MPR side by side to a production. It looks like Benchmade did a great job with the MPR.

Glad you like the 755!

BTW, the "Lathe marks" on the head of the pivot pin is actually silver twill G-10 inset into the head that has been spun giving it a cool spiral look. I then polish the outter ring of the pivot pin for more contrast.

Shane,
Thanks for clarifying. That sounds like a really cool effect. The pictures don't do it justice. Not my style of knife visually, but it appears to be beautifully made by both you and Benchmade.

just ordered one from the blade shop !!! seemed to be in stock but iv had problems with them not having a knife in stock before !!! ill keep my fingers crossed till i call them on monday

Those two look almost identical. Outstanding job by Benchmade! Oh, I guess Shane had something to do with it too :)

Shane you did amazing work! I hope to one day get my hands on one of those MPR's maybe this summer ill get some money to buy one. Ill sell some knives or something since money is so tight now. Gotta work 2 jobs... one for me to spend the other to help my family out.

Glad you like the 755!

How do they compare for all-out toughness?

BULLETIN . . . this just in . . . .

I handled one today at the Oregon show and found it very difficult to open. I put it down with great disappointment b/c the overall construction and design is outstanding. As it happens the saleslady was speaking at that moment with someone who works in the Benchmade factory, about this very issue. He let me try his, and it opened effortlessly. Apparently (if I understood correctly) they are scrambling to move the placement of the thumbstud over a couple thousandths of an inch b/c that is what makes the difference.

It may not be a problem for everyone, but I've got medium-to-large hands, so if you do too you may want to wait a month or so to be sure that you get one of the revised models.
