Gudy van Poppel and myself have started a project together for the Sicac knifeshow (Paris) It will be a big bowie with a recurve which will get a D-guard. I just wanted to show some pictures of the work in progress. Unfortunatly I do not have pictures of the forging.

This is the rough shape Gudy forged. the lines are the grindlines that will be grinded and filed.

Here the knife after grinding but before filing. The grindline has been raised to lower the weight. This beast is 8mm thick on the back and the original grindlines kept to much steel on the blade. It was just to heavy for my taste. Now it still looks good and is a whole lot lighter. This side of the knife has been partially sanded with 240 grit paper to see how the pattern is coming out. I like it a lot.

damast: steels: 1.2842(O2), 75ni8 and 1.2519.

pattern on the other side.

Now I have to file all the lines nice and crisp. Than the blade will be sanded to 600 grit. Gudy will forge a nice D-guard, than we have to figur out wat to use for the handle. After that we'll build a wooden presentation box and a leather sheath.

So there is some progress. Gudy forged a beautiful D-guard out of a line damast pattern that is interrupted by little waves. the guard is also forged hollow. For the handle we picked a piece of swamp oak and two pieces of silver as spacers. We also gave it a name: Raven

Now it's my turn to finish the handle. time for some pics:

Toni, I tried to email you through Bladeforums and the email was returned undelivered, because it says your email account has been closed. If you have a new email address, you should change it in your user profile. I also sent you a message through the contact page on your website.

Thanks Keith for reminding me, I've changed the e-mail address. I received your e-mail btw.

The totall length of this bowie is 15.5 inches, the blade length is 10 inches. It's one of the biggest bowies I've worked on so far.

I love big....

Toni,

That looks great, I'm looking forward holding that one (if possible) in Paris.

There is some progress again. The grip is formed and the spacers are finished. Now we have to harden the blade and finish the D-guard. when all is done, than some final fitting and put everything together. can't wait.

So finally the knife is finished. Gudy took some pictures I wanted to show you. Professional pics will be taken, when I have them, I'll post them here. Now we have to make a sheath and the wooden box.

Beautiful knife. I really like the d-guards. Excellent job, I'm sure someone will be very happy.

I stumbled accross this thread and have to say how impressed I am with this knife. Its a very good example of the skill and patience that it takes to construct a thing of beauty. Very nice. Lin:thumbup:
