Sick Day

I'm home sick with the flu. So nobody can possibly have thought that you'd get through the day without finding me brewing up some tea, bundling up to stay warm, firing up a cigar on my porch...and snapping scores of pictures of various sharp things. I'm feverish and moderately delirious, but let's be serious here.

I probably snapped 100 photos. I wonder why only about 8 of them are actually in focus?

Osage! And blue. My weakness.

Still love the bog oak. Just something about it.

Been in my back pocket every single day since I sharked her some time back.

Every once in a while the Lady makes an appearance. Only if I'm reasonably certain Bob (Bmurray) is not around. The belt buckle is a little gem I found at a second hand store a few years back. Elk tooth inlay and a tiny diamond in for the eye.

I know you could not have possibly thought you'd get through this thread without finding a picture of this knife.

Dang dude, sorry to here you are sick! Very productive cool pics while being sick!

Thanks guys. Tough night, but still here. Gotta recover in time for the burgers and bonfire tonight.

Probably going to be more pics before that happens.

Lighting on this one really brings out the wood grain. Nice!

Not trying to hijack the thread and forgive my ignorance but can someone expound on the wrap. Is it simple for aesthetics, does it have a historical basis, etc.? And how does it feel in hand?

Jim

I can't speak to the historical nature. I can tell you that when Allen first started doing these wraps I thought I'd hate em. Then I got one in a full wrap - I'll try to take a pic later for you. I love it...and it's my workhorse knife.

I think they feel awesome. I've also discovered that keeping them treated with a bit of wax, or oil (I use Howard's Feed and Wax, available at Lowe's) keeps them smooth and beautiful, like the pic shows. I treat my heavily carried/used knives about once a week anyway, so I always apply a bit to my wrapped blades.

I own three wraps now, and Allen has started to do them in rawhide as well.

If you'd like to borrow my workhorse to see if you like it, I'd be happy to send it to you.

Tony

The Fiddleback crew adopted the wrap method from Rick Marchand, owner of Wildertools. I believe Allen's style is similar if not directly related. They are epoxy soaked and the threads add grip and styling to wood. It is also used by itself with a leather backing.

Here is one by Rick and one by Fiddleback Forge

Tony, feel better man. Maybe back off the cigars and caffeine a bit and rehydrate!

Thank you, but you've got to be kidding. Have you lost your mind? What kind of advice is that...back off cigars and caffeine? What, and substitute chicken soup and water? Ummm...no!

My plans for the evening are to have my son drive me over to Cap'n Dave's campfire, where I'll bundle up and speak in tongues from my feverish delirium. I'll drink hot chocolate (caffeinated) and black tea, cut my meat with my knife, pop a few off at the imaginary coyotes running across the fields, and fire up a quality smoke!

A man's got to have his priorities. I'll work on actually getting healthy tomorrow.

Sounds like a great way to bring in the new year!

To me it "looks" like something I would expect on a trapper era knife. You would probably need all the help you could get to hold the handles on a knife when you were working with iron pins, hoof glue and sinew or hide strips.

Hell of an offer for the try out. Appreciate it and might take you up on is sometime.

Thanks for the info. I have seen the full wraps for awhile but hadn't seen the wood handles with wrap until I saw Allen's version.

I'm hacking up a lung. But on my second cigar, Bob.

Tony I feel your pain![, well not that much, BUT] I've been dealing with a chest cold since last Friday...and if there's any night to light up a Fuente and open that bottle of Remey Martin vsop....tonight would be the night! Get Well Soon Amigo!

Great pictures, and hardware. Where did you get that coin if you don't mind me asking?

Keith at CombatBeads.com made it as a special order for me. It's solid bronze, double thick, and he swapped the usual "Don't Tread on Me" writing on one side for the 3% emblem. He's a great guy. If you need his contact info give me a shout.

Sent you a PM. 👍
