I always admired photos of his work, and i think he was one of the first few folks to forge modern damascus. I was talking with his fomer brother in law, he described a damascus war hammer, sword, and dagger set Sid had done long ago...

I figured it would be worth a post, to see if anyone of us forumites knows something of Mr. Birt.

I think Sid has passed on, but if anyone out there knows of him and his past work please post.

Ive seen the piece that Dave Ellis has on his site, would love to have that! (and will if i ever get rich).

P.S.- Mr. Birt was also one of the first people in the United States to import the "Patterdale Terrier" (kinda like a 15-20 lb. pit bull) from England. These are little varmint terriers used to dispose fox, badger, groundhogs and other vermin on farms. His dog "Rocky" was the first dog in the U.S. to take a badger solo.

I met Sid at the second Art Knife Invitational in Reno in the early 80's.
Always loved his work. Great design sense
and workmanship.

Good one RML. Seems like I go nuts over any picture of his work that I have seen.
I especially like his longer knives and swords. That dagger on Dave's site has tempted me too. Unfortunately (or forunately)too much stuff in the works to even seriously think about it. Beautiful designs and always striking damascus.
