Did all of the U.S. LB7's have a fair amount of side to side blade play?, is this because of the lockback design?. My 110's have a little also, but not as bad as the Schrade. Thanks.

I have lots of mint condition Schrade lockbacks. When new they had a very tight lockup imho with no side-to-side play at all. I think loose ones are the result of hard use (or abuse) or it was done intentionally so that they open more easily. There's my two-cents.

Wrap the front bolster in leather(work glove)and gently clamp the wrapped bolster in a vice. That should take care of the side to side play.I've done it,it works. The blade might be a little stiff when opening and closing for awhile, but loosens up in time.

Thanks for the replies. I am the original owner and It has only seen moderate use since 86' when I bought it. It is no big deal as I never even noticed it until recently. I was just curious.

I have bought many 5" locking back knives off the bay made by various American companies and I have repaired them by using a couple blocks of MDF and a large vice. It is the same method as grim 62 except using MDF instead of a leather glove. The MDF works better in vices with teeth.

What is MDF?
