You just keep one-uping yourself Dennis.

Be carefull with that thing or you'll put an eye out!

fellows i will mention that trying to photo this one i nearly got cut several times. one ca'nt just jimmy this knife in position as simply as any other. it shaves hair easily & if it starts to fall you dont dare grab it by the edge due to the weight. a little drop with that much weight & razor edge & you are cut. a 3 in. drop on a digit goes to the bone. i commonly handle razor sharp spydies & b.m.s by the edge since they are light. trying to manhandle this baby means getting cut.dr bill sent me notes on use, right handed people need to learn to swing from left to right so the arc of the swing carries the blade away from you. if you swing from right to left the blade can come back into yourself. going to have to learn new muscle memory.

Dennis,
It seems like the same safety protocols and procedures for using an ax apply to blades of this size and weight, no?
I made the joke about “putting your eye out”, but seriously, a glancing blow or misplaced chop with an ax can literally split your skull, or sever your knee, in two. Many of the same dynamics apply to your new knife. A Kukri has amazing power. Be careful.

On the flip side, it is good to see someone actually using a high end Kukri instead of making it another safe queen in “the collection”

I see that Cold Steel is going to offer a Kukri in ‘VG1 San Mai III”, (you know, that other common steel with the made up marketing name). It should be a pretty good product though. I might have to pick one of those up sometime.

One more thing Dennis...

Use a Lanyard, a forward lanyard, put it through the 1st hole in the handle.

Use one, trust me.

thanks guys for all the info,i remember in the late 50s we were clearing small trees & branchs from marked deer survey lines in e. texas as biological prep work for tex. game & fish commission [ fore-runner of parks & wildlife] one of the fellows cut a vine but kept going & buried the ax in top of his boot. never forgot all that blood coming out the top of his boot. another guy whom was even more experienced was swinging overhead & the axe glanced but the flat area [ luckily] hit him in the side of head & he went to his knees . he was a tuff ole hillbilly & recovered in a few minutes & we continued with the brush clearing. i appreciate your concern & i know bearcut & ankerson have swung many heavy blades.thanks dennis

I keep forgetting to ask, is it 5160? I just gotta have one of those... William M. had a Siegle that I was also lusting after, now I gotta go through some old posts... :D

Bill Siegle's knives are just awesome to look at. I can only imagine (for now) how they perform! I still can't believe the low prices on many of his knives, considering the fit and finish.

I use an HI khuk all the time for chopping stuff out of the way, just learn to swing it away from you and you'll be fine.
if you DO need to cut tword yerself use the weight to your advantage and just take small (and I do mean SMALL) swings,I've done it and found with something like a khuk you just need to bring it up a couple, three inches to make it cut.

No offense but some people seem to be scared of the things......

siegle uses 5160 differentally hardened.he makes a lot of knives but i do'nt know if he's taking orders right now. this was a stroke of luck that landed this monster in my hands.ever now & then he has one in the knifemakers for sale section. i guess some people order & then pass on the knives when they are completed.my 1st one i just lucked out by finding it in that for sale section.william martin alerted me to this master maker & i'm really grateful.

Dennis Dr Bill's reviews of Bill Siegles knives have led to me buying 3 this last year. My largest is what he calls a bulldozier that has a 9 1/2 inch bowie blade that is 5/16 thick. There is nothing his blades can't handle.
