SIFU 21 Stolen!

Yesterday was a heck of a day. I arrived home to find a UPS slip on my mailbox. As my SIFU was a day late, I hoped this would be it. Sure enough, at my complex managers office there was a package from WOW waiting. Now I had just gotten some pretty bad news on the personal front, so when I got home I opened the box, hoping for a little lift. I found a t-shirt and a tube, but no SIFU. It looks like SIFU 21, a right handed green model was stolen on the way to me. The t-shirt bag was ripped at the bottom, but the shirt was still there. The boys are taking care of me, luckily there was one canceled order for a black right hander. If any of you ever meet anyone with SIFU 21 in green, please ask them for me, where they got it.

It’s a rotten day in mudsville, friends.

That is a major, major bummer.

About 1 1/2 years ago, I sent a knife to Benchmade to be repaired. I sent it by USPS. By the time it arrived there, the packaged had been opened and the knife had been removed.

Pleconin-

I hate to hear about things like this.
I hope things work out for you and I hope whoever "acquired" your knife gets bit by it.

This is a definite downer! Sorry to hear it.

A BladeForums and knifenut curse on whoever ended up with it!

looks like guns aren't the only thing UPS employees are good at swiping.

<sarcasm>
looks like they'll have to stop shipping knives as well
</sarcasm>

i hope the guy that stole it decides to play with it while sitting on the toilet, and "slips"

It’s good to have someone to commiserate with. I can’t say a SIFU is a practical thing, who’s loss will cause me any real harm. They are pretty darned neat though. I handled a green on at Blade Show West. Totally impractical for me. (I have never been in a knife fight, and I hope to keep it that way) I really liked it anyway. It is such a shamelessly bold design. That knife makes no apologies.

Pleconin,

It really ticks me off that this happened to any of us. Especially with a piece that is so aggressively bold AND has the Bladeforums identity all over it! I am just worried that #21 could be in the hands of someone who couldn't care less about knives or the possible negative reprecussions of their irresponsiblity on the knife community in general, especially Bladeforums.

If I ever do run into #21, rest assured, I'll get some answers about its aquisition.

RW, sorry to hear the news, I just hope it sometime has an ending similar to one I saw in a news of the wierd item (paraphrasing briefly): Policeman shows up at a domestic disturbance call at a hotel (Canada??), knocks on door, opened, Officer asks for ID. The ID they showed him was his own which had been stolen awhile before. You can imagine they did not need that room much longer....

Perhaps some member will see it!

I "lost" a sterling silver Parker fountain pen once that meant a lot to me because it was given to me by my father-in-law and had belonged to his wife (who was deceased.) Never turned up, had a stain on the flat cap of that older style Parker (75?)that I looked for, but never saw one like it. I liked using it, rather than letting it sit unseen in some drawer, but....

I do not know about the SIFU always being impratical. I figure it might be good at those locations too "civilized" to carry a sheath knife,say a short park trail, picnic in a park, jurisdictions favoring "pocket knives(..hmmm if the word normal or ordinary is added, does this qualify?)" but one where it still pays to be prepared.

Pleconin,

Sorry to hear about your loss. A GREEN one at that! I know what its like to have property stolen. No fun at all.

As for UPS, maybe you've already heard that they are no longer going to ship handguns by ground, maybe air too. Tom made reference to UPS problem with firearms thefts. As was mentioned in "The Firing Line" by one member, they eventually caught a guy who stole over 400 guns! If this is true, what kind of policy and security do they have for tracking down theives that they have hired?!! I have yet to get confirmation, but it looks like RPS might be shutting down business to handgun shipments too. Does anyone here know why? Can't get to the bottom of this yet. Maybe I need to start another thread on this issue...

PS: Mike, Spark: Is there a chance that packageing can be changed in the future to cut down on the temptation factor to potential UPS theives? Maybe a label without the word "Blade or weapons" on it? Can you ship a knife with a shipping contents form stating something generic like maybe, "machined parts", or something less tempting to a theif? Just trying to come up with a solution....

But then again, maybe this is the first time this has happened.

The box is pretty innocuous already. It just says WOW-DISTRIBUTION with an address and a phone number. I must admit a certain amount of frustration with UPS of late. From now on I think I will request other forms of transport.

Pleconin sorry about the loss. I got both of mine in good shape. One of the tube ends was busted but the knives were in good shape.
I agree about the box label, it almost looks like another kind of adult toy company.

Hey!! maybe that's what the thief thought it was! He might get bit in a painful place.

VERY sorry to hear about your loss.
If their is any justice, it will be the ONLY defective SIFU ever made and the thief will have it close on his hand and have his felonious fingers removed. Don't they cut the hands off of thieves in the Middle East?
Man I hate knife thieves!

Pleconin sorry also to hear of your lose. I too had a package ripped open and the valuable items stolen. Then to popur salt on the wound I had troouble collecting on the insurance and then when they did settle they only gave me half of the value of the iteams.I always hope and pray that any time I have anything shipped that the thief dosen't get his hands on my knife or what ever it is that was shipped. It is a shame to have to live in this manner. But such it is in the lives of the shipping industry.I hope you get it straightened out with UPS and make them pay.

Well, SIFU 38 is now safely in my hands. It's black instead of green, but that's fine. Thanks to the WOW Store for the quick replacement. It's frustrating to think 21 is out there somewhere, in the hands of some thief. But it's good to put this behind me.

Thanks again,

-RW
