Hey Guys,I just ordered a D2 Sifu w/fingergrooves,and was wondering if any of you have handled both the fingergroove and non-fingergrooved models available.Do you think there is a different/better feel to the non fingergrooved models?Since the Sifu is so large, are there any control problems when you open them fast?
Thanks

Fingergrooves usually aren't my favorite thing, and, before seeing either version, I would have opted for "without grooves". These, however, fit very well and, with more handling and practice seem very comfortable. Quick opening is still a bit clumsy as the arc vs. hand position vs. "thumb reach" just aren't quite right for me. If quick opening is needed, just hold back the lock slide and flick your wrist. Not good for the knife, but not much is needed as practice. Like full-house 125s in a J-frame, not good if overdone, but there if you need it

I have not handled the non-grooved version, so I can only comment on the original. I was dubious about the grooves right up to the point when I first picked it up. The Sifu fits my hand wonderfully. The grooves provide a very positive grip without discomfort. They also make it possible to use several different grips, including a tail-end "chopping" hold, with equal certainty that the knife will not slip.

biggjake-Welcome to the forums!! Generally I don't like multiple finger grooves on any knife but they do work well for the Sifu. As far as a grooved Sifu vs. non-grooved, hopefully I can let you know Monday when that big brown truck of joy drops mine off!
Anxiously Awaiting,

More of the same here: these fingergrooves were done VERY well.

If you have very, VERY large hands and/or wide fingers, the "single fingergroove" version may work a bit better for you.

I'm 6'4" and 280lbs but I only need a size XL motorcycle glove so my hands aren't all that big in comparison. Still, the original Sifu fits me just fine.

It'd be helpful I think if the people who like (or dislike) the grooves list their approximate hand size.

I think Jim has a good idea...

I love the finger-grooved Sifu and my hands are probably about average. I wear Medium shooting gloves.

I like the non grooved one better - it's way sexy.

BTW, for those curious, both models have now arrived and are shipping out.

YES it is very sexy!! Just got mine in stonewash 10 minutes ago. I'm sitting here fondling it now...the knife that is!! Mucho thanks to BladeForums and REKAT.

The Finger-Grooves on the Pocket Hobbit are excellent for Reverse Grip..
SIFU is great for my hands..

I haven't handled the grooveless sifu, but I have the grooved one, and it rocks! The grooves make it extremely secure when chopping or other such work. When chopping, though, a lanyard hole would really be nice...You REKAT people listening?!?!?!

I've got one of the Austin Powers model Sifu's, (IT'S GROOVY BABY!) and if I had to do it all over again I'd go with the grooveless. I find I like to alter my grip by just the tiniest fraction at times, sometimes I even prefer the edge up, but it just can't be done with those big aggresive grooves.

That said, if you are simply interested in the standard hammer and reverse grips I don't know of any other folder that offers the stability that this one does.

All you need is love... a sharp blade and a full clip

Isn't it great that the Sifu is available in two versions: with finger grooved handle and with finger grooved "less" special edition.

After handling both, IMO the original finger grooved model generally offers a more secure grip than the SE grooved less model. For martial artists and/or users who do heavy duty cutting/chopping this is probably an important consideration when deciding which version to buy.

However, for those users who like a sleeker looking handle the grooved "less" SE Sifu has its merits. IMO it looks less tactical (yes, I know it's a stretch to say that); it may make the knife slightly lighter; and it eliminates points that may snag as the knife is withdrawn from a pocket. While the handle may not be as secure in the saber grip or offer grip variations as does the original version, it is more than good enough for my purposes (not for marital arts/heavy cutting and chopping).

Forget the debate about which is "better." Each is "best" in it's own right depending on how the knife will be used. It's nice that we have a choice. Buy both if possible.

Having had the chance to handle both side by side recently, I prefer the finger grooves. As others have said as well, usually I'm not a fan of full finger grooves on any knife, but those on the Sifu are absolutely perfect. This knife locks into my hand like no other ever has.

I'm the opposite of Jim March and I wear a "small" motorcycle glove. My finger grooved model Sifu fits my hand wonderful. So there you go. Two sizes of hands and the finger grooved Sifu fits both.
