Sifu vs. Civilian

I am considering buying one of these knives for carry. What do you think the pros and cons are of the Sifu vs. the civilian.

Of course I could just get both knives.

Depends on what role the knife will play day to day.
If it's just for defense you could get either, just adapt your training accordingly. If you also want some utility, my vote would go for the Sifu. Of course you could choose a lot of different knives in either area.

What are the main attributes that you are looking for? This will probably help others provide an opinion.

Hi Fight4right. I agree with Steve. The Civilian has no real utility function. It is a strict self defense tool that works best when factory sharp.

This knife will be used only for defense. I have several others that can be used for everyday stuff.

Dude ~ The REKAT sifu is LARGE and BEEFY. Does the job when you whip it out and scare the daylights out of your assailant. Now the civvie fits its description as the "slim-reaper" and used in trained hand, its definitely and efficient defensive tool. The new G-10 civvie has lots of belly and cutting prowess and its wicked looking and at the same time - horrifically beautiful to the discerning eyes of a Spydernut. I'll definitely go for the Spyderco Civillian as a Christmas present to meself when I saved up enough $$$

Ive owned both ...Still have the SIFU and am currently looking for another Civi.

For SD only the Civi is my choice.

I carry both. I repositioned the clip on the Civilian for left hand carry. The Sifu is my right hand knife.

Go ahead and get both, you'll love them.

The only problem with the Civilian is that it has no useful point. Slashing only.

whip out the blade to intimidate the guy?
I got to disagree, maybe he has a gun but hasnt decided to whip it out yet, or maybe he will leave peacefuly, go to his car for the mac-10 and come back.
if you whip it out now you have just given him a dam good excuse for lethal force even if he started it.

i carry a civi, and the only time someone is going to see it is when the **** hits the fan and its time to remove pieces of another person with extreme prejudice.
