Sig 1911 nightmare carry

Something to keep in mind is that unless you buy a "traditional" labeled Sig 1911 they won't fit in most 1911 holsters so it limits the holster options for what would otherwise be an endless choice of options for a 1911 holster. I've owned a couple sig 1911's but not currently as they were traded or sold for something else but they all shoot great in my experience.......for a 1911 that is.

The Nightmare is a sweet looking handgun but I have never seem or held one in person. Just pics. The handful of Sig 1911s that I have shot all worked great.

I haven't shot the nightmare, but I did shoot a Sig Nitron with rail. I thought it was very accurate, more so than myself. One FTF in a 100 rounds or so, but a lot of folks don't care for the stock magazines. Failure is probably attributed to the mag. It seemed like a very well made 1911, but not as traditional looking as a Colt. It had a nice weight to it, and recoil was surprisingly soft, IMO. They had a deal going for a bit, where you got a Sig .22 lr 1911 for free with the purchase of a .45.

I've not had a Nightmare, but I have owned several Sig 1911's. I had one of the first GSR that hit the market, and that gun was plagued with problems (many trips back to the factory). Later I had another that was more reliable, but I could never shake my concern based upon the first gun.

I've owned several Les Baers, and they were 100% reliable. I'd recommend going that route.

Every Sig Sauer I've ever had has been 100% reliable. Have shot a Sig Sauer 1911 though not Nightmare version was the Desert Scorpion or something like that but shot very accurately and reliably. Have the Sig P938 in Nightmare version and has been excellent. One of my favorite guns. The love the single action trigger, shoots accurate, and is comfortable. If i were to get a 1911 it would probably be a Sig or STI International.

I've owned several dozen Sig handguns (starting back in the early 1990's) and all were reliable EXCEPT:

(first issue) Sig 1911 GSR
(first issue) Sig P229 in 40SW

I had one of the very first Sig P229's in 40SW too. In fact, I bought a pair of consecutive serial number guns. Anyway, neither was reliable. I never had a single problem, with THOUSANDS of rounds down range, in West German or German PP220s, P226s and P228s.

I had a few failures with US P220s and as mentioned before 1911s.

I would trust my life to a German made Sig P220 series any day of the week..in 9mm and 45Acp. They do start showing frame rail wear after about 5,000 rounds though.

If I were looking for a 45Acp today I'd only consider one gun:

HK45 Compact (or HK45 Compact Tactical)

If I were looking for a 1911 exclusively I'd only consider:

Ed Brown Special Forces (without SF on it)
Les Baer TRS or SRP

My HK45CT doesn't shoot as well as my Baers did, but its mostly because they have HK's Variant One trigger module which simply cannot be made as crisp and light as a 1911's trigger. It does shoot better than any of the Colt (including Gold Cup), Kimber, Para Ordnance, Sig and Springfield 1911s I've owned. I'm not a formal competitive shooter, but I use to shoot a lot of rounds informal competitions. I now only shoot enough to stay proficient with my carry guns. The round counts still add up so I like the 50,000 round service life of the HK45 series.

Having owned (still do) many 1911's I'd agree that either Ed Brown or Les Baer are well worth the money. It's true that they will set you back a bit more than the Sig, but the cost isn't really that much more in reality.

In short...for a little more, you get a whole lot more. Save some extra money and buy the best quality you can afford. You will not regret paying the extra money for a heirloom quality pistol in the long run. And once you have one, you will understand.

EDIT TO ADD: Another consideration is the Dan Wesson pistols. The DW bobtail is a bit more expensive than the sig but less than the production/customs mentioned and fills a nice niche in that regard. It is a fine pistol.

I have a full-length Nightmare. It was bought right in the middle of my Dan Wesson acquisition frenzy, and suffered slightly by comparison.

This link is to a Range Report I did on the 1911forum. The only thing I can add is that I later sought to trade the SIG on a Dan Wesson Valor. They offered me $750 in trade, and I decided that it was just too good a gun to let go for that, so I bought the Valor outright and kept the SIG.

I have had three SIG 1911's. The first of very early production was a lemon, the second, which SIG graciously replaced the first with, was outstanding. The third, the Nightmare, is very, very good. If I had not discovered Dan Wessons, would not hesitate to buy another SIG.

I have had many Sigs and Baers.....I carry Ed Brown and Wilson Combat.

I still own a 228 but I have no Baer's at all...

I would give the Fusion 1911's a look too. Company built and ran by the former President of Dan Wesson. Quality 1911's.

I have a 5 inch, too. The most comfortable 1911 I've had the pleasure of handling. I've only gotten it to the range once; while not enough to make any sweeping declarations about reliability, it gave no indication of anything less than perfect.

Though I love the idea of 1911s..... Can't see myself EDC ing one. Too big/heavy ..... Not a concern here. No one can conceal carry.... Strike that ..... No one but criminals;)
