SIG P239 - local dealer or "gun show" (dealer)

I'll be paying with credit card, so that tends to exclude private sellers. Also prefer new.

I was just going to walk into Specialty Sport and Supply and plunk down $559 + tax for the 9mm version.

My experience with local gun shows has been good selection -- but pretty much in-store prices. Most are brick-and-morter dealers anyway. No great finds.

Suggestions? What would you expect to pay for a Sig P239 9mm?

Wound up with a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Micro-compact .45.

I agree -- gun show prices are usually not significantly lower, and I like having a relationship with my local dealers. (And I like having local dealers.) I buy things at gun shows that my local dealers don't have.

Mike,

It looks like you did very well in buying that Springfield .45, rather than a "girly" 9mm, (eventho' you didn't buy a Glock! :D.).

I own a Para-Ordnance P-12, which is only slightly larger than the Springfield that you bought, and it sure is a "handy" size! PS...Due to the very short barrel-length, be sure to select your ammo carefully (I carry the Federal 185+p grain JHP), as most hollow-points won't expand much, due to the lower velocity that the shorter barrel provides.

The manual specifically says to avoid the +P ammo.

It's 30-degrees today, so I guess I won't be riding my motorcycle up to the range.

I bought it _primarily_ for self-defense and easy carry, so I guess it fits that bill well.

I didn't think about the implications of the extremely short barrel. I might have been better off with a 3.5" or 4" barrel.

At 24oz, it sure does carry nicely!

El Paso County currently has a fairly liberal CCW policy -- in fact I'm filling out the application right now. Unfortunately, it's only good until 01/03 -- when the current sherrif leaves (term limits). Dunno what the future will hold there.

I also plan on doing a LOT of exploring with my DR-Z400S this summer, and I like to take my PCP airguns up and wander around the mountains. They're a ton of fun, but we occasionally have problems with mountain lions & bears. Also tend to remember the movie "Deliverance". I've stumbled across areas where people are doing illegal wood-cutting, and I know there are marijuana "farms" up there. Even if it's not perfect, it does instill a sense of confidence.

The P-239 is an excellent choice, but I have to agree the 9MM is a girlie caliber. Why ruin a great gun that can be had in either .40 S&W or my personal favorite, .357Sig. You can swap barrels and mags with the 239 .40/.357Sig version but not the 9MM. Barrels run about $150, and mags $20 or so retail. The P-239 in .357Sig does have a fair amount of managable recoil, but the ballistics and accuracy are STELLAR! Ammo is a bit pricey and not found at Wal-Mart. The .40 is cheaper, a little less of a stinger on the back end and widely available. Stopping power with the .357Sig almost touches .357Mag parameters and the round is as inherently accurate as the 9MM. Because it is a 9MM going a helluva lot faster! You should look into AuctionArms website. I have purchased from there with pretty good results, (sort of like e-Bay for guns). Same e-Bay type rules apply, never buy from someone with crappy feedback, know your product, etc. I would also reccomend TJ's Custom Gunworks for aftermarket Sig work. He IS the best, knows it and charges accordingly:( .
