Sig Sauer Knives?

I've seen them around a few times but never seen them here. They seem to be pretty good, materials aren't shabby and Sig has always done a good job with the handguns. I happened to end up on their website and saw that the Pterodactyl and Rangermaster models were going for cheep....down from a lot:eek::eek: So I ordered a PE Pterodactyl with OD handles (too much black on black in the collection:p) and should have it in a week or so (review to follow with many pictures of course).
So, has anyone had a Sig Sauer knife or am I going to be the first here to get one? If you have one, what was your experience? To be more specific does anyone have the "SIG SAUER Folder" (modeled after the P226) as it look neat but the price tag makes me wary?

I also ordered one Thursday night. Seemed like a good price. Hope to get it by next week. Shipping was a little high so I hope that they forward it quickly. Wonder why the drop in price. We will see how it performs. Never had a knife from Sig but my first pistol was the 226 (9mm). Very reliable firearm.

I agree, shipping was insane at $15. The only reason I can think of is that they changed the name back to Sig Sauer but other models aren't cheaper. I don't know and really don't care:D

i know of one person with a sig knife. it is solid and appears well made. smooth action and good lock up.

i dont know if sig makes them or they are outsourced, but at 40.00, how can you go wrong?

Placed an order for two of the green G-10 handled ones also on Thursday! Got one for me and one for my son. You can't beat that price!! I communicated with a guy over at JD who has one and spoke very highly of it. Only thing I can figure is that Sigarms is going to get out of the knife business and they are blowing these out? Do a google search with the name and you'll see where a lot of stores are selling theirs for full retail or just a little under. So at the Sig Pro Shop price it is a no brainer!

BTW Hammer, you might want to edit out the prices for it, as I got dinged for posting them on Thursday.

They definitely look nice. However are they made in China and that being the reason they are so inexpensive?

Well, per the specs, this knife has "N690 Cobalt Vanadium" as it's blade steel, so it sounds to me like Fox Cutlery, out of Italy, is making these for Sig. It does seem to be a good deal, especially when you compare it to the price of some of the TOPs folders, which have similar, if not the same, materials.

I doubt it, unless China's knife factories are buying Austrian steel that the Italians love to use.;)

If it were made in China, I'd expect Sig to call the steel "440C."

They are made in Italy. The only Italian knife I have ever had was made by Fox Cutlery for Ontario and is the Retribution. If the Pterodacytl is anything like that then it will have been one heck of a deal!!

I agree, great quality on the all of the Italian knives I have too, like the Spyderco Volpe for one!

Do you show that steel on any other Fox models? All I find it showing up on are Extrema Ratio and Benchmade models? Where does Extrema Ratio manufacture their knives?

Absolutely, though not many on their website/home page. They seem to use it mostly on their collaborations and OEM stuff. The Ontario/Hossoms, the Spyderco/Hossoms, the Derespina collaboration, and the BladeTech/Fox/Vellekamp models immediately come to mind.

The Spyderco Volpe is made by Fox. A really good knife. I don't know what the steel is.

I've been EDCing the plain edged, green handled pterodactyl for a few weeks now and I'm very impressed with it. Solid lockup, blade perfectly centered, shaving sharp and the G-10 slabs are nice and grippy. I likes it!

The SIG Sauer line seems like a nice set of unique designs, vaguely reminiscent of those lines of cutlery firearms manufacturers put out for their extremely loyal users---for example, Colt, Smith & Wesson, Glock.

Looks like a very nice deal for the money, but for me, I'll stick with a Spyderco in my pocket and a SIG P226 in my holster. :D

God bless.

Be advised that this is definitely not a United Cutlery special but a very well made knife.
