As I wrote in the thread over in General Knife Discussion, I ran into the deal on the SIG Tac Pterodactyl accidentally. It came in about a week, which is not too bad but I'd hope for better as they charge twice what most online retailers do for shipping.
Starting at the handle, the knife is not particulary ergonomic. Is it God-awful? No. But it just isn't as comfortable as it looks. Perhaps the handle should be scaled up. That's just my impression. It feels alright/pretty good in all grips, but not great in one. Maybe that's the mark of a good general-purpose design. The jimping, for lack of a better word, on the top-rear and bottom-center are nice but I found they cut into my hand a little too well. The pocket clip is reversible for tip down carry and I didn't find it to be very obtrusive. G10 scales are done very well, grippy and attractive though I could live without "SIGTAC" cut into it. The lanyard hole should be bigger so it can fit 550 cord IMHO but that can be easily rectified. I felt that the handle was very wide for the size and should have been rounded better as the it feels almost blocky at times.
The blade sports a rather radical design. The recurve is deep and the belly is in a good spot to be of use. It came shaving sharp, no dissappointments in the edge. I don't know what the coating is but it looks to be good and is actually matte and gives off no glare or reflection. Again, I could live without the "SIGTAC" logo but the smaller marking (SIGARMS Inc. Exeter-NH USA) looked nice. On the other other side it has the place of manufacture, Italy, and steel, N690Co. This is my first knife in this steel and I'm impressed. The thumbsted works well enough, I found it to be too close to the handle when opening at first but I've gotten used to it. It can be opened with a wrist flick as well.
The lockup is something that I'm not sure how I feel about. The liner is not perfectly centered, which I never really expected, but seems to be a little too much to the left. However, it has no blade play in any way at all.
All in all, it is a good knife and a real steal at the price.
