Where is the grass always greener?---Why over the septic tank of course.:D

This little guy (notice the buttons on his head) from my resident herd, is finishing up his first winter here in the northland and is enjoying the first green shoots of the year.

Nice Bambi shot Tanker!

Ours got away....Found these bighorn sheep tracks at Thorndike in Death Valley in our our camp last Monday. Them's my clodhoppers from where I went to check them out and found coyote and jeraboa tracks as well. No resounding clack of crashing horns but heard what we thought were rutting calls early in the AM.

Snow is typical for Death Valley's Panamint Range this time of year. Telescope Pak is over 11,100 feet and requires crampons and ice gear for the climb out from Mahagony Flats (8,133 feet) this time of year. We stayed at Thorndike camp here at about 7,500 feet. Set my freshly washed coffee-pot lid down to put the grounds in and it froze to the table.

Down at Stove Pipe Wells it was a balmy 70 degrees.

More typical of what folks associate with "The Valley of Death"

This is a view from Artist's Drive. These are volcanic deposits that have been colored by leaching iron salts (reds, pinks, and yellows), decomposing mica (greens), and manganese (purples). My pix don't come close to doing the view justice.

There were desert marigolds in bloom at Badwater but I'll wait for the later spring months to see if any showers pass through for the real show of desert colors.
