I seem to recall reading something a few years ago about the US military using signal lasers in some of the survival kits they have issued. Does anyone have something factual to share about that? I know from using a standard laser gun "sight" some that at night it can really act as an aerial beacon to your location, depending on the humidity and cloud cover. Obviously, you never should aim it directly at a person or at any aircraft, but I can see how it might easily attract the attention of those searching at night for someone who is lost. I realize that most searches are conducted during daylight hours, but the use of a laser for nighttime signaling still seems like it might have possibilities.
