im queious about a sebbie i have. its flat ground and has chris's signature etched into the blade along with the date. im wondering the value on one of these and how many where made

Not too many made, approximate number around 130 from what I remember about a year and a half ago. I had one at that time, sold it, regretted it and then subsequently found out that there were a few more left in the un-assembled state this last summer. So I ordered another from my dealer. Mine is dated June 25, 2002. I got mine with a double thumb stud. I remember the flat grinds being more expensive than a Regular or Classic, retail being about $375. Add a little more for the double lug.

Hope this helps,

Barry H

thanks a ton i just aquired one and i have never seen one like it before. mines dated april 2001. i was looking for a user but this doesnt look like its gonna be one since its somthin special. ive always wanted one if the decorated ones that has the fishing fly on it. but i never see em for sale

dom, I also have a signed flat-ground Sebenza (april 2001). A couple might be available through some dealers. JohnFJensen lists one for $345. Might well be his last.

Oh, and I AM using mine as hard as I can.
Simply can't afford not to use such an awesome knife! :D

Edit: And, the fishing fly, that would be the Pheasant Tail Fly computer design. http://www.chrisreeve.com/computergraphic.html

I'm still kicking myself about this one...About a year ago I found a flat ground large Sebenza at a knife show, NIB for $285.00! Yes, $285. I passed on it for some other custom piece. Oh well, live and learn.

I made up for my mistake by ordering a new Sebbie from the factory with two blades; a SS Damascus one and a Flat ground blade with duel studs, and a swedge. Really sweet. I still have and use the Damascus blade on the knife. I have put the flat ground blade on it just to see. Just can't bring myself to use it.

One thing I really like about the flat ground blades is that they are made from BG-42 stainless. A steel I prefer over any other. I beleive you can still order a flat ground blade from the factory.:)

blackend,
I believe you are misinformed about CRK still doing flat grind blades.
Do a search on this forum and you will find either Anne or Chris explaining that there were some qualitiy control issues with doing this type of profile. The ones that were put into use are 100%, but they did problems with the others that didn't pass inspection.
Therefore, CRK does not and will not offer any more flat grinds.

Then perhaps I was one of the last to get one because mine is dated November 19, 2002. At the time I ordered mine. I was told there were about 10 more to be made. Still, a search should be able to produce one. I beleive www.plazacutlery.com still has one or two in stock.

My flat ground blade is exceptional. Chris is very particular and holds his tolerances closer than I can see.

bg 42 is great steel, but my favorite bar none is d2 second is a2. im an avid dozier and fowler (ed)fan. this flat ground sebbie is my second crk. im thinkin about tradin the flat ground and gettin a decorated one im not sure.

I just ordered one from CRK about three weeks ago, and I should have it in mid February.

BG42 flat ground blades are still showing as an option while available on CRK's sebenza price list for the large regular

I know I shouldn't shout on the forum, but my flat ground sebbie arrived TODAY!:D Haven't cut anything yet, but I've looked at it and held it. Of course, I need to give it a cleaning & lube.:D :D
