Siiiiffuuuuu!

Recieved my BF Sifu yesterday. This thing is ferocious. Bob Taylor is a sick, evil, genious. >

It is big(you knew that). Between the 5.5" blade and the longer handle, there is a fair amount of reach. I love the long flat handle. It is easy to change grips with and your hand always ends up in a good position after a flip or a twirl. The handle fills the hand very comfortably, so the coupling always feels strong. I was expecting to dislike the finger grooves, but they definately lock you hand in place, probably a good thing on such a long handle. They are not uncomfortable in any way once I sanded the points off of them.

The recurved edge is brilliant for always presenting the edge at the best mechanical advantage. The lock is perfectly solid, with no blade play at all, even better than my Crawford Carnivore. Full force snap-backcuts have no adverse affect on it. The lock has an effective detent to hold the massive blade closed, but a little practice with a double flip motion allows you to flip open with zest.

This thing rocks! Thanks REKAT, Spark, Mike, Mom, Dad, whoever, for bringing this creature to life. The Sifu is, by far, the most knife I have ever seen for under $200.

The SIFU has an appropiate name. It will keep the Carnivour, Hobbit, and the two Pioneers company! I LOVE REKAT products

Got mine today too. Agree with all the comments. A lot of knife for the bucks!

Some minor points... One, like Harv, I'm going to grind down points on the finger indexes. Once you lock in, your are locked in. But getting there is slightly uncomfortable. Two, also will file down a little on the micro ridges on the stud. If I flick alot -- and I know I will -- that's going to do a number on my thumb before callouses form. Three, I think I am going to grind down a bit of the swedge in the crescent shaped area. Really thin there. I like a little more "flat" area to hold the knife folded comfortably in my fist and have the option of using it as a striking instrument without the fear of cutting my own hand. Four, Mike Sastre has got to come up with some kind of breakaway sheath for this monster.

Oh, should mention that the "gritty" feeling that folks often notice in REKAT RL's is missing. The blade swings smoothly. All in all, the SIFU is a darn scary folder. I mean that in a good way. CS must be looking over their shoulder on this one!

I got mine yesterday. Other than the sharp points on the finger grooves the lock on the black one rattles with the knife closed. Is this a problem? These are my first REKATs, but looks like not the last, so I am unsure. It locks up solid as a safe though.

My wife got the package and she waited for me to get home to open the box. When that big blade snapped open both of us said it was a *&$%# BIG KNIFE!

Thanks to all for what looks like winner.

Oh, ya. If your significant other is at all dubious about your knife fetish, the Sifu will push her right over the edge. I have three short swords, and three fighting bowies, but when my wife saw the Sifu, she said, "You have completely flipped."

The lock innards rattle on mine when the blade is closed also. Not sure what that means, but everything is working fine so far. If you work in the high-tech industry, you know that it is not a bug until the customer's application breaks it.

Sifu envy is beginning to set in.

Budget still can't handle it.

Just to let you guys know how sick of a person I am, I have already done a total dismantle on mine and have done some dremeling and and a little other werk.

The rattling noise is the stop pin rattling side to side between the g10 handles. I put a little dollup od loctite on the inside of the right slab of mine to take up the space and it is nice and quiet now.

I am a smoothness junkie, so while I had it apart I used the "Grey Eraser" on my dremel and polished the tang where the lock rides and the sides of the tang where it makes contact with the washers........Smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth...

I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the innards of the rolling lock..straight forward and nothing seems fragile or "hinky". I think the only other real modifications I might do(other than having a clip attached) is to replace the nylon washers with some bronze ones that are wider. There is enough space for some really wide washers in there and I think that would add alot to the lateral strength of the knife. Not that I am complaining bout it now, it does seen pretty stout as it is.

this is a neat knife and worth every penny I paid for it. Thanks again Bob...you have made my day by suppling me with yet another toy to "freak the squares" with..

Mike,
I'm going to need one of whatever you come up with. I am thinking small-of-back, horizontal, breaktop.

Yek,
You have a pocket deep enough for the Sifu? Seems like a person would have to mount a clip in the middle of the handle.

I just got mine: #26, right handed, green handle. What a totally outrageous beast! I love it! The blade is AMAZINGLY sharp.

Sifu #17 - green, right-handed - present and accounted for! Nice job, guys!

Steve,

Most jeans will hold my VG, the Sifu is a little shortsr, it should work fine. it just barely peeks out of my back pocket as well. all should be fine..

Steve
I agree with Yek. Front pocket no problem. Back pocket just a little stiicks out. But it is a little too muck to sit on for a long time. I am thinking about some kind of a sheath also.

Dwight

For the time being I have found that the sheath that comes with the Dragon forge batons works in a pinch as a quickie IWB for the Sifu.. Just need to douse the blade with some rest preventative..it gets a little warm and wants to rust... I also buffed down the points between the finger grooves..much more comfy.
