For years, Chris has been wanting to make kitchen cutlery, ground on one side, much like Japanese sushi knives. I'd been meaning to get over to CRK to get some pictures of the new kitchen knives that were introduced at the SHOT Show a couple weeks ago. Here they are --not the best images, but you'll get the idea. The Sikayo Chef knives come in 9" http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6447061&postcount=43 and 6.5" http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6447077&postcount=44 blade lengths. The proto models have the CR logo and "PROTO" engraved under the translucent handle, and signed on the blade by Chris. The handle material is Ultem, a high performance polymer with exceptional flame and heat resistance. The two proto knives I shot were still available at $450, regardless of length. Production availability isn't too many weeks away.

Ok, now that's out of the way,

BUT WHAT IS THE STEEL???

We wants to know! At least I want to know!;):)

Kind regards,

Jos

I like those knives. Good, practical designs. All the blades should be FFG, imo.

are those handles comfortable?????

I do like chisel ground knives but at that pricepoint, you can have a nice custom kitchen knife made.

The handles are indeed very comfortable. You can't see the 3d profile of he ultem -- it's better than the image portrays. Every handle curve and notch has been place for an ergonmic reason. The protos are basically all hand-made by Chris. The production models will be at a production price point.

Those are purty. A paring knife with that same basic design would get a lot of use in my kitchen.

very cool looking. a 6.5" blade Sikayo and a small 4" paring knife would be an interesting set. how is the weight and balance? I find those factors plus comfort-ability and razor edge holding ability to be the final decision for all my kitchen knives.

I like it, thanks for showing them Dave.

Wow. Those look amazing. Come out with a paring knife and a bread knife and that would be a great foursome. I can't wait to see one in person.

I dont like the looks of them at all for kitchen ware

looks like they belong in an old western movie...very crude

I don't care for the looks of them much. I'm sure they are comfortable in hand like all of CRK designs but from a purely visual standpoint...nope. I will agree with PiterM that the small version is more in proportion.

I like the looks of them alright but am interested in the choice of handle material. IIRC in past experiences machining Ultem, it was not uncommon for it to chip. Typically, materials that excel in one area tend to fail miserably in others. This one I believe has low impact resistance. hrmmm....maybe that was Ultem 1000 I was thinking of....I will have to check into that...
