Hey guys hows are yah

I was hoping to get some advice from the many knowledgeable members here regarding sikh weapons. I do not know much about the subject, except that it has become quite hard for me to find any in a suitable price range.

The only maker i know is of Jot Singh Khalsa & his weapons seems to me are more for display purposes and command a thousand bucks to about $250 000. I can not afford custom prices at all, and i was hoping if anyone knows of any production pieces or any sellers that are selling them and also what should i be looking at before buying.

I'd very much appreciate the help
take care
aj

p.s here are some links to different sikh weapons & some are Pics from a tournament.

Get thee to India...

Seriously? dunno man see if you can find a festival, congregation, or gathering of Sikhs in your neck of the woods and go ask. I used to attend the Prayer for Peace day out in my neighborhood and there were several little stands selling mounds of the stuff you're looking for.

I have asked many people that study the Sikh Martial Art called Gatka, but people do not want to provide any info because either they do not know or do not want to give up their contacts.

I have a good friend who is a Sikh, she doesn't practice Gatka but is familiar with the art. I think she would be suprised that practicioners were secretive or unforthcoming about it, a principle of the Sikh religion is that it is for all, it is not supposed to be exclusive based on race, birth, ethnicity, nationality etc. I will ask her about sources for the weaponry and where the art can be practiced. There are a suprising number of Siks all over the country so you never know.

It looks like most of the weapons are commonly used in the region, the tulwars and shamshirs etc are available from many places, I don't think there is anything specifically "Sikhy" about them. The Lathis should also be easy to find, the shields and chakram look more specific and would be trickier. Suprised to see the double hooked swords, I've seen them used in Kung Fu but had no idea that anyone in India used them. They are available from many martial art suppliers though quality is probably poor.

I was suprised to see the double hooked swords as well, but the specific weapons such as khanda sword or katars and chakars i have not been able to find at all. If anyone knows any makers or any places even within India the next time i go i can pick some up as well.

take care appreciate the help

Besides this most characteristic weapon of the Sikhs, i would venture to guess they used other popular weapons of India, such as:

* Choora (Kyber knife)
* Tulwar
* Khanda (strait, two edged blade, wich grows wider from hilt to tip)
* Sosun Pattah (Forward curved single edged blade; kind of like a cross betweene a saber and a falcata)
* Adya Katti (looks like a shorter fatter golok)
* Firangi (name for swords with a foreign made blade, but an indian made hilt)
* Kora (Prety unique chopping sword. doesnt realy look like anything else.)
* Ram Dao (large sword from Northern India and Nepal, comes in many diferent styles)

Do some research on these weapons and see if you find anything you like.
