We hunted this one ALL night, literally. The sun was coming up when I started skinning it. We had seen it the couple nights before, but never managed to get close enough to spear it. It was a fighter too, once we got the harpoon in it, my sister in law fought it in. It pulled our boat a good ways, then managed to hook its head over the side of the boat once she got it along side. Scared the sh!t out of her! It's something else being in the middle of the swamp at night with one beating the side of the boat and thrashing around, trying to get close enough to hit it in the noggin with the bang stick. This was the last night she was able to go before she leaves, I was so happy to be able to put her on another one. We had some family and friends come down to the camp for fried gator tail and gumbo the night after we got the first one. Now we have a freezer full of meat. She also landed a nice little shark on light tackle the day before, which was also a good 10 or 15 minute fight to land. You can see the little 5ft rod with 8lb test on it in the background. A couple days before she had gotten tagged by a stingray in the same place we were fishing, but was right back into it when we went back. Be it a little more cautious, though.

Youre killing me , man. Im not living life to its fullest. Thats it. Time to plan a canoe trip.

Nothing like a good gator hunt...pulled a tag in SC last season and killed an 8' 325lb one out of lake Marion...was the best experience I have had hunting...

Nice FishShooter! Must of been a real rush! Someday I really hope to make it down there and do the same.

i was thinking the exact same thing. Shooter, you do some really cool stuff. glad to see your sis n law is doing better and getting out there. awesome stuff as usual.

that looks like a little lemon shark :) nice... do you hunt the alligators for sport or is it an organized cull of some type?

The state issues a certain amount of tags per specified areas. You assigned a week during the season to fill your tags. It operates on a draw, then the left over permits are available on a first come first served basis. Everybody I know that wanted tags got em. You're initially issued two tags with your permit, then you can pick up additional tags, if they haven't all been given out for your area and week. A buddy of mine is a nuisance gator trapper and guide. They operate completely different.
