Silat - What is it, etc.

I did a search on Silat, and came up with tons of hits. So, before I spend all day here looking through them, can someone tell me, what is Silat, what good videos are out there, and who demonstrates/teaches, and how can one get started?

Hi,
I'm surprised no one else answered this. Silat is the application of Pentjak or training. Pentjak Silat is the name for sytems of armed and unarmed combatives from the island of Java. There are a couple of good videos out there. First I will plug my Guru's new tape from Pointman Productions -Pentjak Silat Serak with MahaGuru Victor DeThouars and Guru Dan Inosanto. Also Guru Steve Plinck has one out from Paladin (and another coming out from Pointman) about Bukti Negara Silat. Guro Rick Tucci has a couple, while not traditional Silat are pretty good. There are also Bapak Rudy TerLindan (PS Ratu Adil) and Guy Chase (PS Mande Muda). I believe Pak Herman Suwanda and the late Terry Gibson had some as well.
