Silencing KA-BAR Becker Handle?

Has anyone else noticed how the KA-BAR beckers sound different on your hand? When I handle my BK7, my skin against the hollow grivory makes a sound similar to rubbing glass. My Camilus BK10 does not have such a sound to it. When I asked Tooj about this, he said that it was because the KA-BAR Beckers had a higher proportion of glass fill in their grivory. It was nice to know that I wasn't imagining this.

It's not that big of a deal, but do you think if the hollow portions of the handle were filled with some kind of resin or epoxy it would muffle or silence this? Has anyone else noticed the sound? You can hear it when you "clink" it with your fingernails, or even just rotate the knife in your hand.

Yes, I know. Micarta would solve this. Buy me some then, will ya?

use some hand lotion :)

try stuffing the handles with some cotton balls?

I've never noticed, honestly. I guess you could fill it with gear, or fatwood shavings, or a survival kit, or cotton, or silicone, or aw, hell, you get the idea.

That is an interesting observation though.

try pouring a little gorilla glue in the hollows - it will foam up and fill the spaces without adding much weight. (sort of like using the spray foam insulation only better control of application)
after it cures, trim it off flush with the scales and put them back on the knife.

I noticed it the SECOND I picked up my first KA-BAR Becker. At first I thought it was a different material until Tooj explained it.

I thought about grilla glue. Does this work, or is this just an idea? I get the feeling I'm the first to mention this.

+1 for filling the voids with gear. The weight that PJCB's would add is negligible and would certainly come in handy in the backcountry (if needed of course).

Cripes, y'all make it so complicated.

perhaps you could regale us with the tale of your tube? precise measurements, as well as crafting videos, methods of obtaining the finest materials, and how to nurture them. yes. as well, secrets of yore on other applications of that we have come to know as ranger bands? oh! the tales we shall tell around the fire :)
