I'm considering packing one of those flexible silicone bread pans into my WSK, to replace the aluminum bread pan that I have. The aluminum pan serves as an eating dish or container for boiling water. Silicone would be more convenient as it's flexible and can fit into a smaller kit. It's also oven safe, which means it's probably okay to use with the hot-rock method of boiling water.

I haven't heard of anyone using silicone yet for that purpose, so I'm assuming there's something terribly stupid about that idea.

I would be nervous about the temps. you can use them at. But, I'm interested to see what anyone else has to say about it.

Oven safe means they will take 500 F ,I doubt it will take more. Metal is always better when heating as you don't have to worry about melting etc.

FROM EXPERIENCE.... They WILL melt if you use them with hot rocks, or ANYWHERE near the fire. One of the rocks I dropped into the water BEARLY touched the side and instantly melted a hole in it. So, I had yet another brilliant idea. I used my wifes silicon oven mitt to pull the Dutch Oven lid off, and it melted.

I'd keep the metal bread pan, and leave the silicon at home.
