I like to wipe down my Sebenza every night when I get home from work. It gets pretty dirty through out the day and I want to preserve it as best I can. Suffice to say it has become a habit. Normally I run it under a hot faucet and then wipe it down with a paper towel. I am beginning to think though that this might not be the best method as water can get trapped in the smaller areas a corrode, ie the washers / pivot area.

I have heard a lot about silicone cloths from both knife and gun enthusiasts. Many people I know swear by them and state that all they need is a quick wipe down with one and it does the trick.

What are people's experiences with such products? Do they really work as they claim? I have always been wary and see it more as a gimmick than anything else. What good silicone cloths are out there that might work well with CR knives?

In my experience small droplets of water stay in between the blade/washers/handle when rinsed under a faucet. If my Sebenza gets dirty, I will either dissassemble and clean or blow out the pivot with compressed air. Blowing air through the pivot cleans it without leaving water in there, and if you use a lube that drys on like TuffGlide, you can blow out dirt, water, etc. without losing the lube. Otherwise, just reapply lube.

I use a silicone cloth that I got from Helzburg diamonds. It takes light dirt and finger prints off really well. Any big jewelery store will usually sell them for about 3-4 dollars.

With titanium handles and stainless steel blade and screws I don't worry about rinsing under water as I typically lube it about every three weeks and I haven't had any issues to date.

With a plain Sebbie I really don't want the handles siliconed although you could use the cloth on the blade if you wish.
