hi all, anyone with experience using silicone spray(oil) protecting knives? if yes how was it and how often for maintainence? thanks

It works fine. I just clean the khuk after use and give it a light coat. I store my khukuris indoors and have had no rust problems using a silicone spray lube.

I agree with Mike. I was getting a food grade silicone, but decided there probably wasn't any difference and now just get a silicone spray.
It doesn't load up and get sticky in the scabbard either and it makes things super slick as well. Great stuff IMO!!!

Use the silicone after using the khukuri and wiping the blade clean and dry..
I never have had a problem with rust here, but most of my stuff is kept in the house. The ones in the vehicles hasn't been there long enough to have had a problem yet, but I probably need to check them.

I used silicone spray while in Maui (can be extremely humid) and had no rust problems. I switched to Sentry Marine Tough Cloth as it is a dry lube that is impregnated into a cloth that can be packed into backpack etc.., and that doesn't attract dirt and dust---and won't make your hands slippery. But Silicone does work very well.

As stated above the only real problem with silicon lube is that it does attract dirt, and various other schmootz. I use the silicon when I go to store the knives for a while. When I take them out for a spin I use a thin coat of mineral oil, with a little bit of clove oil. Just my 2 cents.
