Silky Gomboy Counterfeit?

So I bought a Silky Gomboy 210 on ebay and just received it, but there are some notable differences in design and I'm thinking it may be a counterfeit. I didn't even know there were any Silky fakes out there, so I didn't expect this. So first off you notice the release lever doesn't have the black plastic part on it, I've never seen a Gomboy with this style release. Also notice the rubberized handle has divots for the grip, all Gomboys that I've seen have raised bumps on the grip. Any ideas if there have been variants to the Gomboy or updated/old design changes? I sent an email to Silky support to see if they could confirm, but who knows how long it'll take to hear back.

Here's what they normally look like for reference, you can see the different release lever and raised grip bumps.

looks authentic to me....based on your pics, nothing stands out as low quality. getting a fake to look as good as that would've required a significant investment to the counterfeiter. an authentic one goes for $30'sh then where's the profit margin for the counterfeiter?

Thanks for the response. How do you explain the different handle with different logo position and lack of trim on locking lever? I've never seen a Gomboy like that.

It could just be from a different OEM or market. My silky pocketboy is an OEM with different branding.

Ebay stuff can also be old stock stuff that has been in a warehouse for a long time, so it might just be an older style, or maybe a batch was done for market testing, and sold off to a wholesaler.

my super accel 210 has similar looking grip texturing, lock, etc...and the proof it's authentic is it cuts like a beast. if mine was a counterfeit they would've definitely skipped the heat treat to save money.

go search for that model in that site named after a river and the first result's pic shows the same grip texture and all metal lock as yours.

I noticed the Super Accel had similar features, it looks like a mix between a Gomboy and Super Accel basically. I did some more digging and noticed a few Amaz0m reviews for a Silky Zubat show people have received fakes and have been confirmed fakes by Silky. There is also a saw that looks like the one I received on ebay, there's a negative review from a customer that says the blade snapped the first time he used it. Also silky lists the saw as weighing 0.55lbs, but mine weighs 0.51 (230grams), I used my high accuracy shipping scale. I followed a trail of pics on google images and eventually came across this site in Singapore where they have this saw with the same design differences and they call it a "Gomu Boy" and are careful not to put "Silky" anywhere in the page. It can be bought for $30 SGD which is about $20 USD. Big surprise, the listed weight is 230 grams, the same as mine weighs. I don't normally go all CSI on things like this, but I already have a folding saw and bought this as an upgrade, so if it's a fake, it's useless to me since the quality won't be better than my current saw. I'm 90% sure it's fake, so I'm returning it.

I don't think that's a fake.
My Gomboy 240 has full metal release lever.
The rubber handle has "raised bumps", instead of the "divots", but that's a minor difference.
(And this is an older model.)
