Silly question

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

All Sebenzas are hollow ground except for a limited run of flat ground blades. I'm not sure if all the flat ground were BG-42 or if some were S30V.

The following is a series of replies that I had received from Anne at CRK.

April 12, 2003:

"In past years, we used ATS 34 and BG 42 for our Sebenzas. Just over a year ago, we changed to S30V. This is the only stainless steel that we offer now. We experimented with flat ground blades a bit less than 2 years ago and made 300 and some large Sebenza blades of BG42. However, we dropped the project because we could not get repeated consistent quality in the grinds. We have just a few flat ground blades that we could still make into Sebenzas. So, even though there have been a variety of different materials and styles available at one time or another, there is really only one choice now - hollow ground, S30V.
Anne"

Concerning flat grind Sebenza blades only, I received the following reply from Anne:

"There were no flat ground S30V blades. All 130 BG42 blades were ground at the same time – the spread of time was because of orders and subsequent assembly of each knife. Sorry, none left! Anne"

Lastly, I asked 3 question of Anne. First if there was a charge for sharpening blades, second if there were any flat grind Sebenza's remaining for sale and their original cost and finally, out of the 130 flat grind Sebenza's sold, how many of them were left-handed models. I received the following reply from Anne:

Here we go:
1. There is no charge for the sharpening of any knife that we make. We only ask that you pay for return shipping. so answer to question 1 is “no”.
2. Another “no” answer here – they retailed at $345.00
3. I checked the records and we made 5 left handed models and the period of sale for the Flat Grind project was April 2001 through June 2003.
Hope this helps!
Best wishes
Anne

I hope that this information helps you.

Deserthawk748,

Thanks, very informative post. I have a flat ground BG42 and was also interested in knowing if any were made in S30V.
