Silly sharpmaker question

Are you supposed to hold the blade flat on the stone? and I got my tenacious hair shaveing sharp but want to make it like a straight razor would the ultra fine rods do that for me? and it scratched my tenacious blade but still got it super sharp whats the deal with that?

I don't hold the blade flat against the stone.But, if your using a flat razor the you may want to follow the angle of the bevel. I do use the ultra fine rods and get scary sharp results. But, for the finest edge I have ever produced I use .4 micro film and then finish with a leather strop. After which I can brush a piece of hair by the edge and whittle it.

You should hold the blade completely straight up and down, so that only the edge contacts the stone. The angle of the bevel is determined by which slot you stick the stone in.

Taking a knife "flat to the stone" will scratch up the back and normally is only used when you want to drastically reduce the edge angle.
