Silly ulu question, but I gotta' ask.

Okay, has anyone ever made an ulu with a more 'tactical' approach? Ya' know, like extended points, thicker stock? Just curious. I always thought it might make a good design. Cheesy, I know, but we all have our moments.:;)

This is about as heavy-duty an ulu as you'll find.
The pattern is inherently non-tactical.

I dunno. I'd say it only takes a little imagination. Looks like a new market to be exploited. If Lynn Thompson can market a tactical man-diaper, I'm sure someone can come up with a tactical ulu.

Hilarious!:D

Maybe "tactical" wasn't the right term to use. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if you think about it, it could be very utilitarian. I'm thinking one with the hole in the blade so you can get a full grip in it.

Think about this style with one longer point and 3/16" stock in a good carbon steel.

My mother has an ulu knife she got decades ago from First Nations Peoples in Canada that is very similar to this. It'd make one heck of a push knife. It is still razor sharp.

Actually, I am working on some designs at this time for JUST SUCH A KNIFE! I make "traditional ulus" at this time, and wanted to "upgrade" the design for the "Tactical" crowd. I don't use stainless steels at this time, but can Parkerize a blade, or it can be "browned" for a very tough "low-glare" finish. The handle would be Micarta, in the standard model, and G-10, Carbon Fiber, would be available. A skeletonized model with the hole is also going to be available, as a "hideout" or wallet ulu, "of last resort". I am currently setting up the shop, so I am NOT in full production mode, but as a one on one deal I can make one for someone. I would make these one at a time, I'm not taking orders yet, when I get the site done, they will be up with all my other items, available for purchase. If you want more info, contact me!

I suppose you could mount one into a long shaft and turn it into an axe...

Or you could buy a Monk's Spade

The Magnum Ulu is a nice little knife. I picked one up a while ago and find it is handy mincing herbs and doing other kitchen small slicing tasks. Excellent belt sheath. You could wear this as a utility knife every day and it would never be in the way.

Firestone axes double as Ulu knives, although I wouldn't want flense a whole whale with one.
