Silva's model 40 and 40NL are for fitting on a watchband or similar. They're not extremely accurate, only to within 5 degrees, but that's enough to keep track of the general direction.

<img src="http://www.canit.se/%7Egriffon/diverse/stuff/silva40.jpg" align=right alt="">They weigh only 0.003 kg, are 22 mm across and 11 mm thick overall, 7 mm over the watchband.

I've been using the one with the black face for some time and decided the one thing lacking was the need to use a light during darkness to tell directions. So I got the model with luminouscent paint on the face. It's easier during good light conditions to quickly see the red mark for north, but the only thing the weakly and constantly fading after being removed from light glowing face is good for in darkness is finding the compass. (And if you're wearing it, that's not hard anyway.) The red arrow is too small to make out, so the use of luminouscent instead of ordinary white paint is totally meaningless.

One word of warning! Check it out with another compass after you put it on your watchband!!

I looked at one in the store and set it ON my watchband. It was almost 90 deg OFF! My watch case and band are both METAL!!

Something to be careful about and KNOW! They can still be carried there, but removed to be USED!
