Silver blades?

Fine silver is 99.9% silver and very soft. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and somewhat harder, though not near hard enough to make a decent knife blade. I have never tried to sharpen silver, but doubt it would get very sharp, and it will not hold an edge.

Is silver significantly less durable than steel?

Yes, significantly. That's why the invention/discovery of steel when silver was already known was so significant.

Can silver be sharpened to take a hair-shaving edge?

Yes, and so can paper.

Will silver hold an edge, or will it dull quickly?

Ah, now that's the real question. The answer is that it will dull quickly.

Is there a significant difference between "sterling" and "fine" silver?

I believe Mr. Montgomery gave an excellent answer here.

Silver-bladed knives are usually used only as letter openers. A silver Skean Dhu would be for dress.

Recently saw a website of a fellow who makes custom skean dhu Scottish dirks.

I know I'm nit picking here, but I can't help it. Sorry:o A Sgian Dubh is not a Scottish Dirk. The Dirk is a larger knife. The Sgian Dubh is a completely different entity. The construction is different, and their uses are totally different as well. It's like the difference bewtween a Ka Bar and a HAK.

That being said, where is this site, I've been interested in having one made, and have yet to find any that are any good.

Would not a silver bladed knife be a potential benefit for eating?

They used to make such for friut knives, afterall.

silver does have antibacterial qualities. Aside from the obvious benefits against vampires, werewolves, and the like, of course.

One solution would be to have a damascus steel knife blade inlaid with silver.

Of course, this could cause significant problems with other species, like bankers, credit officers, and the like.

:D

silver, gold regards as soft metal that they are fexible..and for electronic industry .they cannot be used in ''actual & substantial cuttng '',usually use as decoration purposes.
in order to make it harder, usually add some other metal to it to become alloy.
in addition , silver ion can attack some kind of bacteria .hence usually, silver is used as cookware such as bowel ,spoon ...
i medial aspects, silver ion salt is used in some eye drops ...
