Guys: Remember those models that had metal handles with (for lack of anything more descriptive) the swirly Western kinda pattern on the handles? Kind of like what you'd see stamped into the trim of a fine Western saddle. And I just hallucinating here or does someone else remember these too? :)

I think you're referring to the model 111. It came with a light brown sheath with a similar pattern. They are often for sale on ebay.

They were called the "Classics" series, they came in response to the "Urban Cowboy" craze of the 80's, very light but didn't always hold up well and the aluminum handles scratched something awefull.

The large one was the 110, but there were smaller versions also.

I could be wrong but I think these made up the series...

Awesome picture Clyde!
The 111 is one of the infamouse model numbers that was recycled before it should have been. Drives us collectors crazy. Do a search on Ebay for the 111 and you might find the one from the picture shown above but more than likely you will find the 110 with curved bolsters from last year.
The same is true for the model 186. Is it the early version takeapart Titanium from 1987 or the Odyssey? Keeps us on our toes. :D

Hi mdblade...
Yep, as others have stated prior to me, they exist. I have two of the three dot 1980 111 knives with the shiney (not matte engraving scrolls). Use one as an EDC and the other is wrapped up in bubble wrap (no box). They came with a tan/natural toned sheath also had scroll tool work (I only have one sheath and it is new and wrapped along with the knife).
I love the knife...it's light and looks good. But for heavy stuff would always defer to a 110 or 277/9.
The 111 1980's handles do scratch easily...but hell, one would expect that with aluminum.
Regards,
Me.

So, today, I read an e-mail from a gent that mailed me a question about my pic on my site in my signature. He asked me about my "Urban Cowboy" 111 Classic.
Went to take a pic of my set..."had" three 111 Classsics and one 531. One of the three 111 units is the roughed out scroll.

I am missing one of the 111 units. One with the shiney scroll.

REWARD...one Bud Light to anyone with a lead that results in the safe return of Goose's 111 Classic.

Gotta go..."Terms of Endearment" is on...

yea but are not a Hard user as the frame WILL bend and the blade wobble
buck will repin and straighten out the frame but not replace it
i sent in a user that had the frame spread apart on and it was BENT apart unevenly
to both sides and the blade wobbled apx 1/2 inch at tip. .
i no longer trusted it to not bend as alum is not a flexable metal at all
once bent it is not to be trusted.
they repined the balde pivet to tighten up the bend in the frame and
sent it back and said they do not replace sclaes for wareing out,

edit - Joe had the knife replaced...

Wow...after I just typed about how we love Buck :( That makes no sense given the "lifetime warranty"...are you sure or were you drinking outta the mason jar?
That 522 proto was a great find. I would have skipped my scoot insurance to catch that one...missed it.
As for the tanto...that would be cool...post a pic of the end result whenever and whatever it is.

Thinking I will get something engraved on the one I EDC. Need something catchy...whatcha all ya all think?
One Bud Light to the winner if I select their suggestion.
