The werewolf movie thread reminded me of something, but I didn't want to hijack that thread.

Are there others here old enough remember the offbeat article ideas that the old Gun World magazine used to come up with? Their editor was a colorful old guy named Jack something-or-other, a noted shotgunner.

They set out one time, tongue firmly planted in cheek, to test silver bullets, ala the Lone Ranger. They tried several different alloys as well as pure sillver to cast bullets, and after an entertaining article, complete with pics of gun writer in a poor imitation of a Lone Ranger get-up, concluded that silver bullets were terribly poor performers. Totally unreliable as werewolf or vampire protection, also.

Another time, they tested a family premise that great grandaddy made his way 100's of miles back to the old southern homeplace from Appromattox on foot with nothing but his officer's sidearm that he was allowed to keep. Using a Ruger Old Army blackpowder revolver, they went on an extended walk with no food and only managed to scrounge up one scrawny cottontail rabbit, concluding that great grandaddy did well to avoid starving to death.

There were many other very offbeat premises that I have forgotten. I haven't found as entertaining a Gunzine since, although John Conner in Guns and American Handgunner comes close, in a different sort of way.

Years back I knew a Trooper who carried silver bullets !! I don't know if they work against zombies ,I never met any zombies in Syracuse !
