This is just an idea, but has anyone tried to silver solder the pins for handles before attaching the handle material? Like I said, this is just a crazy idea floating around in my grey cells, and would like to know if it would work. Thanks in advance.

(I know this isn't as interesting as 'Gator Salid, but....)

My thoughts were about pre-finishing the hanle material to a perfect fit. I understand that I would have to allow for relief on the bottom side of the material. Like I said, this is just a thought.

I guess after seeing an Edmund Davidsun integral fighter with the pins all part of the block that make the blade and guard one might think about this idea...

But I think it would just make things way more difficult to finish without a benefit to make it worth it.

But I'm wrong a lot...

Seems to me that soldering the pins in would create a real problem of alignment if the pins were the least bit out of perfect vertical. I prefer prefinishing handles with temporary pins in place then I finish the rest of the knife and re installl the handles with epoxy and new pins. All I have to finish then is the pins themselves and a little scuff around the pin from sanding the pin down.

An alternative instead of soldering the pins would be to use Corby style rivets and a smooth hole instead of a stepped hole in the scale.
