i cannot get the search to work here. my question is: what is the difference between Camillus knives labelled "silver sword" vs. those with "sword brand".
thanks, roland

OK, someone will correct me I'm sure, but these are two different lines of knives.
I don't want to say better, but the Sword Brand seems to be a higher quality line, and includes the 1011 thru 1014 fixed blades, Woodcraft, military type blades, and the loc-back and folding hunters which are really good looking knives.
The Silver Sword line are the ones you see that are mainly stainless with wood inlay, or all stainless.

here is an example of the 2 different stamps. a 3 5/8" stockman Sword Brand// Camillus/883/U.S.A; and a 4" "muskrat" Silver Sword//Camillus/826/U.S.A. the stockman in particular is a v. well made knife.
any further info. on these 2 stampings or about either of these knives will be much appreciated. Ivan, i checked that link but where does it mention Sword (silver or brand) ? roland

scroll all the way down there is a silver sword knife with box but its got a blade etch, ive seen camillus 4 line stamps with the sword brand on the flip side, quite old if im not mistaken, sorry if i sent ya on a wild goose chase, i thought perhaps you were refering to the sword brand etch on the blade my old #26 has it, from the 70's. Ive never seen the silver sword stamp before, dunno ive got lots to learn, codger might know though

Tom Williams or Phil Gibbs are the ones to ask. In the meantime, search this forum "sword".

I've been going over my Camillus history notes, and decided to get a few examples of the older knives. Adolph Kastor & Bros., founded by Adolph in 1876 in New York City was mainly an importer. After buying the Camillus NY. factory owned by Charles Sherwood in 1902, Adolph Kastor, and then his sons Alfred and August made knives under several tang stamps over the years. In 1903, Kastor added the Clover brand. In 1906, they added the Sword brand. In 1923 Albert Baer landed the Sears account, and eventually they used the Sta-Sharp, Dunlap, and Kwik-Kut brands on Sears knives. In 1936, Camillus added Stream Line, Camco, Syracuse Knife Co., Mumbly Peg, and High Carbon Steel U.S.A. trademarks. Others used, according to Goins, were Kent, Pathfinder, Gold Coin, XLNT, and Seven In One.

The SWORD BRAND trademark was first used in 1906. The Silver Sword line was introduced in the late the 1970's or ealy 1980's. The first Silver Sword knives were the models #40 and #42 (these numbers were later changed to #862 and #864). Many of the Silver Sword knives had smooth stainless steel handles and some had wood inlays.

I have a Silver Sword lockback with brass liners, and bolsters and rosewood scales. It seems to be very well made and finished. I have a small Camillus collection and this is a nice addition to it.
