Similar ads, different agencies - strange coincidences in advertisements

I think advertising firms work like this: They pay alot of money to have a huge image collection and a random word generator. They get hired and charge millions for grabbing an image from the bin and generating some text.

I know a company that payed several hundred $K for a firm to genrate a new "brand". Turns out it was 95% like some other companies brand. Two years later the same thing happened all over again.

Got any details or maybe a link?

I vaguely remember the story about the NBC peacock. After they worked it out for use as their logo, they found some small company already had been using about the same picture. They went nuts and sued them to change it, but the other guys had it first. I don't remember the details of the settlement.
