Been using this High Sierra brand pack for about 4 years now as a bike commuter pack, for mountain biking as well as general purpose such as overnight trips. VERY happy with it, although its not the biggest thats not a bad thing ;)

Its held up great and has been extremely useful (I really like those two strap on the back, they work great for carrying an extra coat/blanket/towel/whatever). Hoping somebody here can point me towards a similar design thats available which will be just as durable if not tougher? I don't thing HS makes this particular pack any longer...

Buck268. You might check out the Maxpedition Falcon II at maxpedition.com. You pack looks to be of a similar size. You can find better pricing from some of their dealers. Very stout stuff.

REI had some similar packs on sale in their closeout stuff a while back as well.

Trying to avoid the tacti-cool look, but I have heard about mexpeditions reliability... That Novara pack looks cool, although I really am looking for something with at least *some* type of lashing option for extra gear when necessary. My pack definately looks bigger than that in person, maybe I should have filled it up a bit before taking teh pic (its got about 1/3 of a normal load)

In order to avoid the tacticool look Maxpedition is offering several of their packs in new color combos now.

I have a Maxpedition Falcon II and (gasp from the crowd) I don't like it.
It's too short for me (5'10"), so it rides way down from my shoulders, which causes it to hang out away from my upper body.
The opposite of 'low-profile', it sticks way out behind - which screws up my center of gravity causing me to walk bent forward at the waist even with modest weight in the bag.
It's heavy even with nothing in it.
Too expensive, too complex; little pockets all over the place.
Tough though, I'll give it credit for that.
I'm planning to replace it with a First Accent Tehama.

Thanks for the review, fasteer. One of the things I enjoy about my current pack is how well it fits my 6' 3" frame. Just kinda rides right along with me, not awkward at all.

The Condor II is a bit more spread out then the Falcon II, so that could be an option. The only problem is that right now at least it's only available in tacticool colors, but as a day pack, I think it's pretty good. I just bought a Deuter Futura Pro 42 and I love the thing, being the most comfortable backpack I ever worn. It's too big for what you want, however after my experience with the brand I definitively would look for one of their smaller packs. They even have some commuter backpacks specifically made to carry a notebook, and they're totally "civilian" looking.

What's wrong with black? Should be ok as long as you're not wearing fatigues and carrying an AR-15.

Ordered my man pur.........er um adventure bag last fri---a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipak---will give a review when it arrives.
