What is a similar knife to the BM Mini-Griptillian? Just want to see what other options I have that closely resemble it. Doesnt have to be Benchmade Brand either.

Thanks,

Michael

The Spyderco Delica 4 is similar in being a lightweight, smaller EDC. The Kershaw R.A.M. and Spyderco Manix 2 have a similar lock system, but better handles.

Why not just get a Mini-Grip?

I had a grip and while it was a very good knife I didn't care too much for the wide, zytel scales. I picked up this BM Blackwater and it has become a regular in the rotation. Everything I liked about the grip but much nicer, slimmer G10 scales. Everyone needs at least 1 axis lock!

Just looking at different options, I have heard about the Mini-Grip not being all that great.

The main complaint about the (Mini) Griptilians is the handle material, which is a type of plastic (far as I know.) Some people are of the opinion that it feels cheap. It does feel like a lightweight plastic, but that can be deceptive since it's actually extremely strong. Beyond that, the handle is slightly bulbous and IME a bit of a pants-grabber. If any of those things is enough to turn you off of the Grip then look elsewhere; otherwise I wouldn't discount it right off the bat.

My main problem with it was that it feels so small in the hand; the ergos aren't that great to me. I don't mind the FRN material, but the knife is a lot thicker than it needs to be. Also, not that it matters from a functional standpoint, it's ugly. I was intending to get one, but after trying one in person I became convinced that the BM 943 is well worth double the cost of a mini grip, so I went with that instead.

 I like the 943 quite a lot.

As far as the mini-grip, the handle material is made to be thin as possible so it's light. The bad part is that it tends to sound and feel hollow so it reminds me of cheap plastic junk, even though it's very tough. I've seen people fill the hollow inside with JB Weld or some epoxy material. I like the feel of Spyderco FRN best and the FFG Delica is a great alternative.

My onlly complaint is that its rough handle texture can be a bit rough on the pants material. It's an ideal size though (for me) and of high quality.

I've always found the mini grip to be a very nice little knife for EDC. My wife edc's it. I do often as well with it's big brother.

I like my mini quite a bit. The only complaint that I have, which it really isn't, is the shape of the clip makes it hard to get out of my pocket. Of course, it makes losing the knife more difficult as well. So, not that big of a complaint :)
