Guess I should have used the search feature 1st before posting, found my answer, but feel free to post .

Thanks ... now another knife I "have" to get.
That Mam sheepsfoot looks like a winner.
Is that "German Stainless Steel" the Krupp 4116, used on some Cold Steel knives?

MAM makes a good knife -- I have a spearpoint w/liner lock and it's about the same length as the Opinel #9 but a lot thinner stocks, so it rides easier in the pocket.

Glad that you found your answer. What exactly was the question?
"similar to Opinel" in what way?
►same lock?
►same low cost?
►no back spring?
►wooden handle?
►made in France?
►same blade design?

Pretty much all you have posted "knarfeng" I ended up getting another Opinel only a NO.6 in Bubinga this time, probably gonna pick up one of those Mam knives later on,I just love the simplicity of these types of knives,no frills, functional and quite nice for the price, also how long Opinels have been around say a lot for a knife company to me.

Congrats on the upcoming No.8 Richbat, this one has been around for a long long time. Figured this thread needed a photo even though it doesn't answer your question. :o:D

Cold Steel made a pretty cool knife called the "Twist-Master"

If you are looking for knives with a similar locking mechanism, Cold Steel made a knife called the Twistmaster, long discontinued, that featured a similar locking collar. I don't have a photo of one but there are probably videos out there of Lynn showing it off by using it as a can opener on a 55 gallon drum before fileting a dragon or other such nonsense.

If you are looking for an inexpensive wood handled single blade knife then there is a Spanish knife maker Aitor called the Castor, which I refer to the Castor-Aitor. That one I do have photo of next to a GEC #71 Bullnose. There is no locking mechanism on this one, it is a simple friction folder.

edit: Jon beat me to it on the Cold Steel Twistmaster.

Not too far from Opinels, just cross the border and into Spain: Taramundi knives :)

Fausto

I agree with Fausto on the Taramundi knife recommendation. I purchased one in Seville, Spain in late December. I was enthralled with its good looks right from the start, but the more I use it, the more impressed I am with its cutting performance, edge retention, stroppability, etc.
