Similar style knife to the CS Hatamoto

With the recent CS thread going, I figured this would be a good time to ask. I really like the style of the CS hatamoto. The streamline handle and blade when opened, the two material handle, size, blade design, etc. However, I don't see the product matching its going price, let alone msrp.

Do you guys know of any other folders that stack up to the hatamoto in design? I'd be willing to pay an equivalent price depending on the piece, but Im not looking for a custom blade.

Any and all info is welcomed

The Hatamoto is an excellent folder. I've had mine for a few years now and it's been used a lot, and held up fine. If you want a folder that is similar in design AND in built quality, you're pretty much gonna pay the same or more. It's made up of premium components. I don't see how this knife can be had much cheaper.

Have you handled one? If you didn't you should. It exudes quality, utillity and toughness.
It's also beautiful, but that's a matter of taste I guess. ;)

To get one kinda like it you will be paying at least as much or more.

They aren't that bad price wise at around $240 or so for what you are getting.

They are made of all premium materials.

hmm. I see. The reviews I have been checking out seem to either put this knife at the top, or disregard it as a custom knife gone wrong. I guess this could be attributed to the bias around CS.

So far ive had no complaints with my few cs purchases (rajah series), but I figured id be on the cautious side before jumping into their more expensive products.

If you ever get to handle one you will buy it right off the bat if that's what you are looking for, they are that good. The tolerances are extremely tight on that knife, very high quality product.

Well maybe not the same quality, but doesn't CS recon 1, has a tanto option with the same blade shape? If you want something on the budget, you are going to have to make sacrifices.

Grind is very different, as is the steel. The Hatamoto blade is 4mm thick. Very different knives altogether.

Ive never liked black blades. Obviously thats personal preference, but it was never my style

I guess I have misread, the OP, he is looking for similar quality, but cheaper, or higher quality for the same price.

the MSRP is $400, google easily finds them for $200, thats a very wide price range, personally I'd get a CRK tanto, if I was set on the tanto design. and if I was willing to dish out $400 on a folder. At $200 you have a bit less options, there are plenty of good knives, but most of the knives are trying to be original and not copy cats, so finding something similar will be tough, finding something good in that price range will be easy.

Cold Steel MSRP is always stupid, not uncommon to get them retail for half. I think it's a challenge to find a similar style and quality knife for that price. The Hatamoto is pretty much a niche knife. And a well-made one at that.

You can get them for around $230~ $240ish from reputable online retailers.

Don't ever pay full MSRP. ;)

Hehe, I will remind you about buying something from a reputable dealer, and not the factory price, next time we meet at the Busse Exchange. :D

But joking aside I know that, I usually go further and buy from someone on these forums.

Well Busses are slightly different, Busses price is cheaper than aftermarket. :D

They tend to go up in price and it doesn't really matter if they are used or not.
