So the patent on the Edge Pro has expired, so you can now get Chinese made copies. One thing many people have done is bought the Chinese copy system, then bought Edge Pro stones because the included stones are terrible pretty much always. The Edge Pro system itself is more expensive, but you get much better quality for the price.

Shop around for the copies, and look at reviews on them. Some are made of all plastic, those are garbage that should be avoided, too much slop to take any advantage of the system. Find one that has good reviews and is made of metal, some of them are pretty inaccurate for the markings and spacing of markings for angles.

Honestly, if you want a good guided system, I'd suggest a DMT Aligner or Magnaguide. Proven system, and the full set of stones with the system should still run under $100.

The KME is a good alternative if you want a little more precision than the DMT and the option of a mounting base. It will run more, but still less than an Edge Pro or Wicked Edge.

Not cool.

Cloned garbage doesn’t belong on this forum in any way.

A good thread on the clones is Sharpening system: Lansky Deluxe 5 stone or Edge Pro Chinese clone ???

Regarding the terrible stones they come with :) bodog: if you call this crap

Avoid the clones. They are not worth it. There are plenty of other nice systems. But don't expect to get something great for really cheap.

Start out with a lansky or sharp maker. If you have super steel with vanadium get the diamond, or SiC stones for them.

Or better yet just get the edge pro stones and freehand.

This is actually different. It's public domain design now, the patent expired.
That doesn’t mean shit.

It’s still a stolen design made with inferior materials by idiots that can’t come up with their own design.

The cut angles are incorrect and the stones are garbage to name a few.

Take easy man... I believe that we are talking about cheap sharpening, not piracy sharpening.
In this case, who stolen who? Lansky, Gatco, DMT?
Henry Ford develop the car, all others was stolen ideas?
Sony develop digital camera, all others was stolen ideas?
Santos Dumont Develop the airplane, all others was stolen ideas?

My guess, if you Alex are starting in sharpening world and you don’t know if it’s is a hobby, an love or just a enthusiastic period, there are another original systems also “cheap” but with overall quality far superior than clones.
Spyderco, Lansky, DMT, Gatco... they aren’t the same shape as Edge Pro but all of them work with better materials and stones than cheaper ones also put a really decent scary edge on you blades and you can sell them if you need an upgrade.

The problem with very cheaper sharpening is that maybe you can’t reach the precision, the performance, the final results just like with an original Edge Pro does. This can be frustating to you and maybe lead you to dislike sharpening world.
I know that Edge Pro staff/crew have to think, plan, test and develop a product from zero and I particularly don’t like the idea of ctrl+c > ctrl+v but it’s the world and patents exists to avoid piracy.
