Well, today was a good day. Got thru another day at work w/o throttling some of the sub-humans I 'm forced to work with(what else is new, eh?) and I received my Cetan Hawkbill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered this from Rob awhile back, maybe oh, January or so, just about the time he and Bob(aka Bald1) got into the Talonite thing. Well, I got so wrapped up in it all that I also ordered a Talonite Cetan. When push came to shove, I opted for the Talonite version first. So Rob toiled away and I got the Talonite Cetan In June, with the D2 hawkbill to follow. Now it's here and I'm as happy withit as I was with the first one. This was to be more of a daily carry piece, so It has blue G10 scales on the D2 steel, with a multi-carry Concealex sheath in carbon-fiber finish.
Well.
I LIKE IT.
The multi-carry has all the options you'd want; neck, horizontal, vertical, all with a simple two screw mounting system.
I wore the set-up as a neck knife all afternoon and found no problem with weight - I think the holes drilled thru the scales and steel made the piece a whole lot lighter.
Rob ent two different belt attachments with the sheath;
one holds it at the traditional vertical position; the other at a slightly elevated horizontal crossdraw angle. I have not had the chance to do any field evaluation yet, ut so far I'
m caught up in the incredible sharpness of the edge and the way the knife feels in the hand - sweet.
I'll post more in a day or two, but it is one knife I'm glad I waited for.

Brian,
You've got two wonderful users there - they will give you years of good service - enjoy! - plus Rob as you know makes incredible knives and is a super person. Have fun deciding which blade you like better - I personally like Talonite slightly better than D2 but not by much.

Lucky Guy! I've got to wait till February....2001 that is for my Hawkbill Cetan in Talonite.

That is the only next purchase that I had on the books that I'm sticking with, no pun intended.

By all means Brian, let us know just how handy in everyday use it is too you. I'll just have to live through your adventures!

Brian,

Actually Rob and I started the Talonite Project in September of '98. The fruits of his labor appeared a few months later.

Having some of Rob's work at the top of my favorites list, I know how much you're enjoying your blades. G2 will have a fantastic beginning to 2000 as I hear he has more than one due

Thanks guys and also, another thank you to Rob, "you're a gentleman and a scholar", as my mom used to say.
Gary, you're sure to be pleased with the hawkbill, I wish I could have sprung for Talonite in both knives, but those pesky bills keep coming thru the mail.

Bob, please excuse my faulty memory re: Talonite beginnings, I think I should have done some homework before throwing dates around!!!!

Well, this will be the last knife I'll get for quite some time. With my wife's ongoing battle with breast cancer, we have taken a bit of a financial dip, so at least I'm semi-retiring with a great blade.
Once we beat this thing I'll be back in "acquisition mode" again. At least I can vicariously experience "new" stuff through my fellow forumites. Thanks.

Glad you like the knife Brian, thanks for the kind words.

More importantly however best of luck with your wifes battle, I will say a word or two for her next time I talk to Him.

Bob's right, I have one other due pretty soon, Rob's booked solid but said he will be working on mine, a Talonite Carnivour with Desert Ironwood scales, very much like Bob's!

This knife is one that Mr. Tom Walz's contest on the Talonite netted me and I can hardly wait to see her!

Brian, prayers are with you as well, keep her spirits up!

Brian,

I'm very sorry to hear of your wife's plight. Rest assured that you all are in my prayers.

All the best!

Thanks very much, my wife and I were touched by your responses, we'll take all the prayers we can get !
Gary, I am jealous as heck of your Talonite Carnivour. Bob's is one beautiful piece, at the Blade Show West Rob let me fondle one he was carrying; talk about smooth action!!
I bet your on pins and needles !
Thanks all and take care.

Brian,
When I made my first post I was not aware of your wife's problem - my wife & I want to extend our sincerest wishes for a full & total recovery. I kind of know how you are feeling - my mother has recently overcome lung cancer through surgery and is now 100% clean - I pray that your wife has equal sucess - just keep the faith that you can & will beat it!

Gary,
Rob(aka Santa) has to finish my Talonite Carnivour with Australian Ringed Gidgee handles & filework first - he is trying to finish it by Christmas. I told Rob that I wasn't going to be upset if he didn't make it but he promised he would try. No 'sugarplums' in my head, only Carnivours - instead of sheep I count Carnivours to go to sleep at night. If mine turns out anything as nice as Bob's, oh what a Christmas it will be! Plus I only have 4 more coming from Rob over the next year - I got my orders in while the gettin' was good.

Happy Holidays!
Bill
