Simonich Mid-tech Crowfoot, should I keep it?

I recently purchased a Mid-tech Crowfoot since I liked my Bitteroot so much. I planned on using the Crowfoot as an edc and as another backup to strap to my vest while on duty. Through initial handling I've found that the hole in the handle doesn't fit my finger very well in either hammer grip or reverse grip. The hole rubs on my fingers and is actually kind of uncomfortable. I'm thinking about selling or trading the Crowfoot to fund one of Bud Nealy's MCS system knives. Any thoughts?

btw I'm a user not a collector if that makes a difference

If you aren't a collector and the knife has no sentimental value then I wouldn't keep it. I have so much respect for Rob that I would personally keep it, but that is a personal decision.

I also have respect for Mr. Simonich but I would like a different knife and I can't afford to buy another knife without letting something go. This is a tough decision, thanks for your thoughts shootist.

well if you are a user then you need a knife that needs to be used. Sell or trade off the crowfoot to someone that will use it. I think Rob would much rather his knives be used then stored away.

Agree Rob would rather see someone using one of his designs than unhappy with it and holding onto it "just because".

Move it along and get what you need and what works for you.

You guys are great, I appreciate the help making this decision. This Crowfoot would make a great user and I really like the overall looks of the knife but it just doesn't quite fit my hands very well.

Hi...

Why don't you take the money you get from the Crowfoot and order an Urban Raven from Christine...
Or preorder the new blade Simonich LLC will be coming out with soon..

Just a thought..

What's the new blade from Simonich LLC? I haven't saw any info on it. Will it be similar size as the Crowfoot? I really like the Crowfoot just not the finger hole. The Urban Raven looks great but I think it might be a little too big for my needs.

Lord knows you won't have a hard time getting rid of it if you do want to sell it.

No kidding, I've had quite a few emails already and I haven't even said that I'm going to get rid of it yet. I'm still thinking and handling the Crowfoot. It might grow on me, I'm going to give it a few more days.

Hi....

The Kootenai we hope will be the next blade from Simonich ..However I don't have any specs on it..

Maybe something you could ask in the Simonich forum...

As far as the Urban Raven ,,it's not really all that much bigger than the crowfoot..It's actually a nice sized working blade...

As for what Spark said,,,it won't last long...

I'm keeping it! I had it posted in the trade forum for a few hours and recieved some great offers but my better sense took over. I know I'd regret getting rid of it. Ahhhh, I feel better already. :)

Are Simonich knives still being offered through his wife? Does anyone have any details on what has happened to the Simonich company and their future?

Hey Matt...

Now these are my own thoughts,, I don't speak for Christine in any way,, but my feeling is Simonich Knives will be coming back full steam ahead and the future looks bright.

Rob had many models of knives that can be brought into the Mid Tech line, and I think Christine will do very well with them...

Hang tight and keep your eyes open..:)

dewingrm, why don't you just file the hole larger? If your not a collector and you want to use it.

I didn't explain the problem very well, It's not the hole size it's the location. The hole fits my fingers it's just at an angle that feels kind of funny. I don't think any filing will help. I plan on carrying the Crowfoot and seeing if I get used to the hole location.

I had the same problem with my own Crowfoot. The very first knuckle of my pinky finger tended to knock into the hole pretty uncomfortably. I still think it's fairly comfortable just looping my finger around that hole too though, and then there was the extra security available if I really wanted it. I eventually lost a few pounds and quit working around the house all summer, which made my hands a bit smaller than they had been, but...by then I'd already promised to sell it to a friend for an unbelievable price. (one he insisted on, but I still feel guilty for accepting) When I resharpened it for him the other day I was thinkin' how I wanted it back real badly, but after a day or two I realized it wasn't and still isn't the knife for me. Overall I think that's one of the best little blades ever to hit the market- as long as you don't have extra large forepaws.

Sounds like your mind is made up. Hopefully it'll work fine for ya'. If not I'd consider the advice already given regarding a different Simonich. If that Kootenai is the one I'm thinkin' of it's pretty damn sweet lookin'. Aint many other folks that can make a knife quite as attractive and functional as his.
