Simple canteen pouch modification

I'm currently taking a break from sewing... but just thought I'd share.

I'm sure I'm not the first to do this, but a USGI canteen pouch has enough room on the front to sew on a USGI compass/first aid pouch which provides enough room for an altoids tin and then some (such as a space blanket tucked behind it).

Here it is with the corners tacked down. I didn't get it as centered as I had hoped, I want to eventually put a multi-tool pouch on the other side of the center pouch, and tiedowns for a shoulder strap.

My favorite threads are those that show how someone's experience has lead them to customize their gear to function better.

Great mod, Burncycle!

I've seen that type of a modification many moons ago...but it's still good to see! I really need to pull out all my older gear and could make some of these...putting a multitool pouch and tabs for a shoulder strap would be excellent additions:thumbup: Well done,

I'm curious how you're going to do the straps. Could you post the final product when you're all done?

Thanks for the comments guys!

Still deciding on how to do the attachment for the shoulder strap though. There are a couple of possibilities so I might end up playing with a few variations.

I decided not to whip stitch the sides of the compass pouch down to the canteen pouch, when full it wants to gap. The corners are pretty well reinforced at this point, and I did another set of stitching about half an inch down from the top corners to reinforce it from the stress of loading and unloading the pouch, and I think that should hold well enough.
