I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I figured you guys have a healthy appreciation for paracord (like myself) and therefor might be interested. If this is not an original idea I apologize, I did a google search and nothing came up so I figured I would go ahead and post.
While sitting at my desk learning how to tie some new knots I happened to notice that an empty .22 casing was very close to the outer diameter of 550 paracord. The thought struck me that the empty casings would make excellent (and more importantly free) endcaps, and being bored out of my mind I decided to give it a shot. I put the empty casings in a bottle with a little water and some dish soap and shook it for a few minutes to clean them out a bit. After drying them with a paper towel and a q-tip, I mixed up some fast curing (1 minute) epoxy and used a toothpick to smear it around the inside of the casing. Next I forced the paracord in as far as I could and wiped off the excess epoxy, then held it in place for a couple minutes. The results, while not perfect, were pretty decent for a first try I think. The .22 casing was slightly too large in diameter, but I made up for it by squishing the paracord in until it expanded and made contact with the sides. I think I'll try out a .17 HMR casing next, which should fit snugly and look a little cooler as well. Anyway here's the pic, sorry for the poor quality, I took it with my camera phone.
