after reading the $1 survival knife page on M40 survival, http://www.m4040.com/Survival/DollarSurvivalKnife/Dollar_Survival_Knife.htm, I decided to try my hand. Made with a metal cutting blade, cardboard, and glue. Shaped with a dremmel and hardened with a blue flame lighter, then tempered in the oven. I have no idea how hard it is, but it came out pretty well as a small backup or EDC.

Oh man, now you have done it. That 1 dollar knife will cost you thousands! Next will come a 2X72 belt grinder ,drill press, heat treat oven, ect ect ect.Endless hours of searching the net for damascus steel and lightening strike carbon fiber. haha just kidding. I like the heat coloring you got on the blade.Cool shape.

Yeah I liked it too, I started to polish it off then decided the way it caught the light was nice. I was really upset that I liked making it as much as I did, because I know myself, and you're not too far off, at least just a proper oven, and some power tools, and the rest of it.

"Looks like a prison shank that fell out of Bubba's rectum."

LOL don't judge it will protect you better than a hamster.

"That 1 dollar knife will cost you thousands!"

Soooo True. Welcome to the addiction!

I saturated each layer of the cardboard with super glue, so they were plasticized, then affixed them together. It can't be as good as micarta but its waterproof and takes a real beating. Ive done it before for other things.

That's very interesting. I had the same thoughts about a cardboard handle, but if that works, I'll have to file it away for future reference :)
