simple howler sheath mod - low to high ride

got a howler of my own now :D, and just wanted to share a simple sheath mod i did on it...

i love the sheath, but i dont feel comfortable walking around the city with a sheath that hangs down to my knee. i prefer my knives to be hanging arm length, but due to being city carry its not really an option... so, all i did was paracord the loop folded backwards, and pull up the bottom tab to help secure it as a belt loop.

some of the paracord is there so that i can use the bent loop without having to actualy put the belt through the loop itself, instead my belt is resting on the actual back of the sheath.

it turned out kind of pretty, wich was completely and utterly unintended. i didnt even have a plan for this, just started looping it for what i wanted it to do... the end peices of the paracord are behind the two vericle strands, knoted, and sewn shut, and burned together.

i was wondering weather or not i should have gotten a straight handled badger attack instead of the howling rat, but even though i know that i could get one right now without having to spend a dime on it (straight across trade), i like the howler better... just what the knife is is super appealing to me... one of my coworkers (everyone ive shown it to so far has loved it, and wanted one) described it as "burly" :). once youve held a pub defender (and i assume a mini spec ops), the definition of burly gets scewed a little, but the basic idea was nice, just a hearty work horse of a knife... i am very happy i have it....

Simply awesome! Just did the same thing to my BR sheath!

BTW, sweet AD!

thanks :)

(attachment = what it looks like on the belt)

i hadn't thought about doing it on the larger blade sheaths, but i have now  :D

the sheath for that ad is an interesting one too, for wich i found yet another mod use... heres a compilation pic of its verious cary methods - the center stich has come out since it was only there to keep the backs of the seatbelt from flopping all over the place, not actually to bear weight. id restitch it now to make the low ride loop, and probably restitch the end of the belt to make sure it didnt come undone

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28579

in that pic im using a shoelace to tight it to my leg - but now that ive switched to carhart duct work pants, i can attach it to the hammer loop :D
normally, with low ride like that, id put in a strap to snap over the handle so it doesnt flop about when walking, but since i dont do any running at my job, thats not to much of a problem. having the strap also keeps the sheath stable against the leg, instead of having the knife hanging from a strap where it can really go haywire with a little momentum. but, with this, if i chose to carry it like that, id leave the strap off, because it gives the rig more flex room when sitting down, alowing the handle to jut out from the leg a little.

fun stuff that steatbelt is...

*edited to add, the knfie is backward (in the reverse icepic stab draw) because i wear it on my left hip now, bumped down by the howling rat . i dont know what it is about the howling rat, but it screams, nay, HOWLS to be used, where as the busse is just something that i use when i need it...*

I thought the HR came with those leather sheaths like the bog dog?

The Howling Rat now comes with the leather sheath, when we first introduced it 2 years ago it came with a kydex lined cordura sheath like the one pictured

Hey Eric, any chance of getting one of those kydex/nylon Howler sheaths now? I like the leather, but there are times the tactical sheath is in order.
BTW... any news on the D-2 Bog Dogs yet?
You can email me :D
