So I thought I would share a very simple Excel Workbook idea for knife inventory. It is very simple workbook that anyone can build off of if they would like.
I created (2) pages on this template with the 1st worksheet being the 'Inventory List' where you can add reference points to any knife or item you add in worksheets. The 2nd worksheet in this template is some of the things I record of each item with photos. I did a simple macro on the sample item to link Inventory List worksheet to worksheet 1 where item is stored.

On Inventory worksheet cell 'A3' I entered (=Sheet1!C6). That populated data from worksheet 1 entries in 'C6' to our Inventory worksheet cell 'A3'.

Then I clicked in Inventory worksheet cell 'A3' so it was selected and then went up to menu bar at top of excel page and selected 'Insert' tab and then clicked on 'Link'. This will allow you to make a hyperlink from selected 'A3' cell on Inventory worksheet to the worksheet 1 inventoried item. You can add as many worksheets as you want to your Inventory worksheet for quick reference to any given item.

Hopefully this will work for someone if interested.

Cheers! Annotation 2021-03-13 jh.png

It's very generous of you to share that kind of intelligence. For me, I'm content in knowing (more or less) where my knives are lying all around the house. They ly all around. And I know (more or less) where they are. I get surprises...

Thank you Herisson! That is a good problem to have....many knives laying around, brings much enjoyment.

For me this is a timely thread, and I highly recommend to anyone that a knife inventory is very useful, especially when you have 100+ knives.

Unfortunately I had a similar worksheet that my old computer swallowed whole, which pissed me off to no end. Well the old computer just died, so I recreated the inventory worksheet on my new computer using the somewhat outdated back-up I had kept on a flash drive along with the paperwork from all (well most) of my purchases (yes I keep such things). Interesting experience and I really enjoyed it. I like to know what I own, how much I paid, and what steel the knives are made of, among other things. You just can't keep that much info in your head. Comes in handy especially if you're looking to sell or trade any knives.

I can understand it may all seem a little anal and not everybody's cup of tea, but again, I find it to be a very constructive and useful exercise.

That's a great idea. Cataloging your collection is very important for so many reasons. I use a cloud based app called CatalogIt but your solution is excellent!:)
