On school days, I am responsible for taking our three youngest boys (kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade) to school (my wife takes the oldest to a separate school in the opposite direction). While getting everyone together, checking their attire to see if it arguably close to matching and is reasonably weather appropriate, signing whatever needs to be signed, etc., the boys typically watch a cartoon. Usually it's a current one (SpongeBob, Fairly Oddparents, etc.) but yesterday they happened upon an old Merrie Melodies cartoon, entitled "I Love to Singa." It features a family of owls, with one who has a unique sense of musical style that doesn't quite fit in with the rest. Here is a link to the cartoon, for those who may be so inclined:

The boys really got a kick out of it, as did I. It seems as though many of the older cartoons are simply more entertaining than a lot of the recent stuff (I really like the early Popeye cartoons). Anyway, last night, as I was giving our youngest a bath, I started singing the "I Love to Singa" song. This particular son does not like me to sing - period. I think, for some reason, he interprets it as an attempt to embarrass him. Well, this particular song really fired him off and he stormed out of the bathroom in a huff. I had to laugh.
Old cartoons, and finding something that really annoys the s**t out of your kids (and exploiting it) - two good things.
