On school days, I am responsible for taking our three youngest boys (kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade) to school (my wife takes the oldest to a separate school in the opposite direction). While getting everyone together, checking their attire to see if it arguably close to matching and is reasonably weather appropriate, signing whatever needs to be signed, etc., the boys typically watch a cartoon. Usually it's a current one (SpongeBob, Fairly Oddparents, etc.) but yesterday they happened upon an old Merrie Melodies cartoon, entitled "I Love to Singa." It features a family of owls, with one who has a unique sense of musical style that doesn't quite fit in with the rest. Here is a link to the cartoon, for those who may be so inclined:

The boys really got a kick out of it, as did I. It seems as though many of the older cartoons are simply more entertaining than a lot of the recent stuff (I really like the early Popeye cartoons). Anyway, last night, as I was giving our youngest a bath, I started singing the "I Love to Singa" song. This particular son does not like me to sing - period. I think, for some reason, he interprets it as an attempt to embarrass him. Well, this particular song really fired him off and he stormed out of the bathroom in a huff. I had to laugh.

Old cartoons, and finding something that really annoys the s**t out of your kids (and exploiting it) - two good things. :)

My brother in law once opined little kids were made to be tortured...in a friendly way.

I like the old cartoons. I also like Sponge Bob very much.

I love when Hannah gets all huffy-puffy for no aparant reason. Leah says I act like her big brother rather than her father on these ocasions. But I tune both of them out and have a good time annoying them.

The bad thing about me and my munckins is that we can decide which cartoon to watch and she try's to black mail me with Avatar: the last airbender. pretty cool cartoon better that the transformers i watched as a kid.

I tell mine they can pass on the tradition when they have kids. (SpongeBob is one the best of the current crop. I enjoyed Samurai Jack but I believe it was cancelled.)

As far as I'am concerned "Chuck Jones" and the other boys from Warner Bros. are the shiz when it comes to cartoons. Bugs bunny and the rest of the crew can kick booty all over the stuff on tv they call cartoons these days.

Oh sure there are some mildly amusing programs, Jimmy Neutron, SpongeBob the idiot boy and such. However they just don't compare to the older stuff.

Thats not an opinion..

Samurai Jack, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Catdog, Sponge Bob. ONly SB is left.

I like Avatar OK but sure miss Dragon Ball Z.

Aaargh. Not dragonball ...

My kids get high on Avatar, and a bewildering variety of other Japanese anime. I get bored with the explosions, shouting, and silly looking eyes.

But for me, "Foster's home for imaginary friends" and "Sixteen' have some of the best writing on the box.

For a long time, Pokemon was king around our place. Thankfully, it has largely gone by the wayside.

The kids on the local Reservation loved Dragon Ball Z. It was King. It's King around my house too. There must be 100 action figures and even a few T shirts here. Sponge Bob did make it to a comforter for two out of the three boys, and one of them has Sponge Bob pillow cases as well.

I liked the old Warner Bros. toons as a kid, but endless Saturday morning reruns sort of dulled my interest. My latter-day favorite is 'the Tick', a superhero spoof that came out long before 'Mystery Men' or 'the Incredibles'.

I loved "the Tick" when it was on. Good comic, too. One of my favorite shows now is "Robot Chicken", a series that indicates that people of my generation are now making TV shows. :D
